Default temps

On my Aim via can I am getting
sm ect 226
sm oil t. 271
sm engine temp. 190

what is the engine temp? relative to the oil or water temp? Can the oil temp be a real number or is it a calculated number? Is it reliable?

Which car is this? ECT would be coolant temp, oil t is oil temp, not sure what you are getting for engine temp, but it looks like it may be coolant after the radiator (versus the ECT at the factory sender).

Looks like "SM" indicates the Siemens ECU on a 987.2 Cayman...

My car is a 2012 and I don't have sm engine temp. The oil and water temps are real numbers and seem to be reliable.

Interesting, I just double checked mine and do have both SM_ECT and SM_Engine Temp on my 2012

I don't, I just realized I had them both because of this thread. I've always just used SM_ECT

My variance in temps between SM_ECT and SM_EngineTemp aren't as extreme as the OP though. Just clicking on a few random laps from yesterday I am only showing a few degrees different. These temps are much lower than the OP, so the difference might go up as temps increase
