So my 2016 MBP does not recognize my MoTec ECU using a USB-C to Ethernet adapter any more and my wife has taken over the system for personal use anyway. So, I am in the market for a Windows laptop for Aim data analysis and Motec ECU management.
Is a Dell Inspiron 15 durable enough for a track side laptop? This is the one I am looking at:

I think I have posted this before, but here is what AiM says you need. I think it is a bit low, but a system meeting these will run everything https://www.aim-sportline.com/downlo...cs_103_eng.pdf
The only issue with the computer you linked is hard drive size. Depending on sensors and logging rate, when you add video, you can easily make over 100 mb of data and video in a weekend. You'll end up needing an external drive at some point.

An external drive is easy. Few folks harvest 100 GB a weekend...
I recommend only saving the best run of a previous weekend for comparison and review before the next event.

FYI, not that I would recommend it yet, I've switched to a 32GB M1 Pro 16" and run everything in ARM windows 11 via parallels. It's about as fast as my old MBP 15" was running windows natively in dual boot. Has been working well for all the device connectivity, programs and playback for Aim and Racelogic.

I also have a Microsoft Surface Laptop Studio 11th Gen i9 with 2TB that I have begun using more. Really like it.
Backups are a 2017 XPS13 9360 (last year with the SD card slot) with a 1 TB NvMe SSD and a 2019 13” Corei7 rMBP with 1 TB and 16 GB of RAM.

Race Car
If I lived on a laptop for work, I would certainly spend more and buy a higher grade system. But, I will be using this one only for the race car for AiM data and the MoTec ECU. The Dell Enspiron 15 with a Core i7-11390H, 16GB RAM, and a 1TB SSD is more than powerful enough and should be durable enough for what I need. $900 delivered is really hard to beat for what I am getting....

More than enough for what it’s being used for. Way more.
