Stujelly, I would not fret over that. The touchscreen helps (not available on the matte screen) and the nits (the brightness and luminosity, as the Italians like to call it) are really, really good. I bought the matte for better battery life more than anything.
Display technology has progressed substantially in the last few years. No more do I see several people with their hands over their eyes in the paddock at Sebring squinting and trying to make out dim characters on some big old HP laptop or Toughbook. It’s all good now.

That XPS15 looks interesting;
1080p display, matte, and high brightness (400nits).
Tons of ports
light and slim for 15"
Wireless display for use on large screen using HDMI dongle.
Ability to have HDD and SSD installed at the same time.
$999 base configuration is not bad either; integrated graphics, i5 and 8GB RAM should be fine for track applications.
Would have to add an SSD to that, but that's low cost.
Alternatively, get the SSD model and add a HDD.
That puts the price up around $12-1300 total.

i was using dell for a while but some of the new thinkpads are incredible. same pointing/mouse device, and touch pad. mine is T480. really great screen and if you configure with the larger battery its like 12 hours of actual run time. and they have an internal non-swappable battery so if you buy a spare battery, you can swap real time without shutdown. i went with i think it was 32gig ram since it was 140 upgrade and all that video stuff is heavy ram etc. i use it for streaming sports events as well at my business.
its pretty durable. fast. pretty flawless so far. i think i paid like 1500. it has a 2tb ssd drive. when you call these companies, frankly, they can offer better prices /discounts by phone than they have in their outlet/refurb area. would never buy on ebay again. if you can wait the week for them to build, they do a nice job with discounts. my suggestion is get a machine taht will last a while. especially in that cup car universe, all that cosworth and motec software, drivers....not a fan of reloading that on new machines.

Was just at the local micro center looking at laptops to use with my new MXP. What screen size and resolution is going to be necessary to get? As I have a nice iPad Pro that I use as a laptop replacement for everything (except AIM apparently), I'd like to spend as absolutely little on a laptop that will just be used for track days. Can I get by with a 13" 1080 screen or is that too little?

My son and I dual drive. an 8, 20min session day (4 for him, 4 for me) uses about 10Gb on the SCHD; mostly video.
The lap data uses very little relative to video. So a 2 day track weekend is about 20-25Gb.

I consider a 13" screen too small, though other folks use them. I know most computers are easy to hookup to a monitor, but that doesn't help at times like this when we're flying home from Laguna Seca all day. I think a 15" is the sweet spot in size/weight/price, but it will vary for other people.
