Default SoloDL & Smartycam not talking

I purchased a SmartycamHD and a SoloDL from another user here earlier this year, and I have yet to get the two to communicate with one another...the Smartycam is essentially an expensive GoPro, as I have to manually start/stop it and there's no GPS or other telemetry on it. A pretty well known AiM dealer messed with it for a while and suggested that I try a new 5-pin to 5-pin cable, and I did but unfortunately it didn't solve anything. So basically my Smartycam indicates that there's no GPS available, and on the Solo page configuration there is no 'Smartycam' option available.

I'm guessing that this is some sort of internal issue and that I'm basically out of luck, but I'll let the experts here chime in...thanks in advance

If you tried replacing the cable, then I'd say to send both in to AiM. They are very reasonable in repairing things.

If the SCHD not turning on when their is power to the Solo DL, then it's not getting a connection in either power or CAN signal.

Thanks Matt - I’ll give AiM a call.

It does power on when the Solo and car start up, so it’s receiving power. Just no other communication. I actually have a spare Smartycam with a bad motherboard so I thought about swapping the GPS and EXT ports over, but maybe that’s a task best left for AiM

Let AiM do it. It'll be supported.

Thanks to both Matt and Peter for recommending that I send the units in to AiM - they were very reasonable, and quick too. I actually sent them a second SmartyCam that was labeled ‘for parts only’ and they were able to revive it, though it did require that they ship it to Italy for the repair.

Great customer service from AiM!!
