Default How do I read SmartyCam SD card on Mac?

I am trying to consolidate lap tops and move my AIM stuff to Mac running VMware fusion. I have Racestudio working. I can't seem to read my Smartycam card on the Mac. I am pretty sure I always had this issue but I always used my PC laptop for AIM stuff so it was never really an issue. Do I need to reformat the card on the Mac to make them work? It seems like I just let Smartycam do the formatting before.

Thanks in advance,

Denis

There should be no issue with accessing the files through Finder and playing them with VLC or even QuickTime Player. Are you trying to play the videos while in the VMware virtual machine, or in OSX? FWIW, I stopped using Parallels a couple of years ago and went to BootCamp instead. I'm not crazy about having to go through a reboot, but the AIM software seems more reliable that way.

Denis, what SmartyCam do you have? An early standard def with data? One that you download data and video through Race Studio 2? Or an HD version?

VLC player will allow you to watch SC videos of all kinds, platform independent. Doesn't matter if it's Mac, Windows or Windows on Mac in Paralles, VMWare or Boot Camp.

The Mac gives me an immediate error "the disk you inserted was not readable by this computer." and gives me an option to Initialize, Ignore or Eject. When I searched for a solution it says that Mac will not read SCHD cards formatted for NTFS.

I am not sure on the Smartycam version (since its in Virginia) but I usually just pull the SCHD card out and pop it into my PC laptop.

I think it's a formatting issue with the card itself. It works fine on PC but is not recognized at all on the Mac. It's not a player issue.

Peter - when you get a new card, do you format on the Mac? or let Smartycam format it?

I use cards of 32 GB or less, which are natively formatted in FAT32, the only file format readable by both Apple and Windows computers.

In you Mac, you can use Disk Utility to reformat the card, or you can right click on the card in any windows machine and format it to FAT32 using the default settings.

I haven’t used the cameras to do this job.

This a 128 GB card. I'll try a 32GB card and format it on Mac. Thanks!

Format the card with the camera if larger than 32. It will format as exFAT which is readable by all os systems.

The camera formatted the 128 GB card and it is not readable by my Mac. I have a 32 GB card that is formatted to FAT32 that I will try this weekend.

I am not even to that point. With my Windows laptop it read/played the 128Gb cards fine. The Mac laptop won't even recognize the card at all. I am hopeful with the 32GB FAT32 card that I'll be able read/play on both computers.

I dunno. I am going to try the smaller card and see how that works. I'm at VIR this weekend with NASA but will bring both computers.
