Default Taking power from SCHD2

I continue to experiment with audio inputs on the SCHD2 and have an idea that will require 12V power.
However, I want to minimize all possibility of ground loops and as such would love to use the same power and ground
supplying the SCHD2 (and SoloDL). One possibility is to run a separate power cable from the same point in the fuse box.
Another, cleaner method is to take power from the +Vb and Gnd pins of the 712 GPS connector on the back of the SCHD2.

I will be using a very low current audio circuit and can certainly fuse it with a very low amp fuse (say 1A).

Thoughts? Issues?
I already ordered a male binder 712 4 pin from Newark.

I would expect that to work. I don't remember how many amps the dash can supply. The dash provided 12v is loosely regulated if that matters.

Wouldn’t recommend that if you can get it from the fuse box. 1 amp is well beyond the capacity to deliver (or the draw from a) GPs antenna power. The board is small...

How would I find out the current delivery capabilities of that GPS port?
Is there someone at AIM I could ask?

I called AIM in VA. They did not have the exact spec of the port, but the GPS unit requires 1-2amps so they believe that port can supply at least that much power.
I don't intend to consume more than a few hundred ma max, so I should be ok.
I'll use a 1A fast blow fuse to be careful.

That's the damndest thing I've heard! The battery can't supply that load and I use the GPS-08B with a standalone SmartyCam for up to an hour on full charge with no external power!

I think we're talking mA, but go ahead and try it. I just don't know what your device draw is compared to the GPS-08, which is certainly not 1-2 AMPS...

FAIL!
I did get power from the pins on the GPS connector.
Unfortunately, it was about 3V, not 12.

I will need to run a separate power wire back to the fuse box.
Good news is my audio setup seems to be working and noise free.
It front ends the SCHD2 with an exhaust mic, cabin mic and extra input for the intercom.
That plus a DSP for some EQ and compression.

3.3V, industry standard?

Do you have a data hub nearby? You have 5 and 12 there. I thought the GOS0Xb ran on 12v.

Still don’t think it’s a good idea.
