A lot of work to fit those, but they do look good and more modern kit can make for a more comfortable cockpit.
Smooth leather looks slippery though, but the shape will hold you in, and better than the originals, I'm sure.

Just finished another messy job of greasing and building the CV's & axles. With the added engine Hp, the 6 speed 0E1 trans has had upgrades along with the rear diff. I purchased massive axles that came from Adrius Power in Poland, supposedly the axles are made from old Russian tanks and can handle 1,000 plus hp. My Verkline sub frames, hubs, trans / diff cups are all setup for S2 CV's which are bigger and can handle more Hp. Problem is they are not sold in the USA and none of the companies in Europe want to ship, so thankfully my friends at Walkers Garage in the UK, were kind enough to purchase and ship to me.

Jeff who is building the motor, just shared that, the head and block is decked , bored and honed and main saddles line honed. Ready to assemble as soon as crank rotating assembly is balanced.

Prepped the engine compartment for paint, so I can install sub frame and trans while waiting for the engine to finished. I didn't find any new rust, which was nice. I replaced some seam sealer and used a metal itching primer for added security. I am doing a color change to Alpine White.

Installed rebuilt steering rack by Quality Remanufacturing, new clutch master cylinder, 1986 Coupe GT brake booster with new master cylinder. The GT booster is suppose to be a better booster than the stock one.

Interesting steering rack design - both steering arms connected to a bracket on one end?
Guess that makes for better control of bump-steer, with longer arms.

I'm doing the 01E 6 speed upgrade and here are the changes that being done on my build.
1. Sub frames are S2 Verkline
2. S2 Hubs, Cv's & Axles
3. RS2 trans mounts
4. C4 Shifter box
5. C4 shifter rod to shifter
6. B3 90/CQ shifter base plate
7. 01A shift linkage (form 5 speed)
8. 01E linkage

Big Thanks to Varia, who was kind enough to provide the details on the shifting linkage mods and parts needed. I found the C4 shifter box and its on its way. I started modifying the shift linkage.

The 01E linkage mounts lower and to side verse the 01A and the linkage needs to mount like the 01A.
I cut the shifter mount off the 01E that connects to the shift indicator rod and used it to attach the ball mount off the 01A linkage.
The 01A linkage needs to have the end that connects to the shifter rod shorten by 1/2", but it needs to be shorten from the end that is welded to the tube so the clamp remains.
The linkage tube needs to be lengthen by 1" and that's because there is a difference in length from the connection to the engine and the gear selector rod on trans. I tacked weld a piece of angle iron on the linkage and then cut the linkage so I would maintain the correct orientation when welding back together.
I used a piece of solid stock material and turned the ends down so they would slip into both ends of the linkage tubing. The with another piece of angle iron, I clamped everything together getting the correct alignment and welded.
Lastly, I welded the 01A ball mount onto the 01E mount.

I still need a aluminum mount from EFI to attache the cross link.

Received the waste gate and turbo inlet. I did a quick mock up on the exhaust manifold and it looks great. The angle of the T3 flange is not angled as much as some other manifolds I have seen, so I hope that everything fits. If not, I will cut the flange off and rotate to fit.

Jeff got back the pistons from being ceramic coated, crank is back from balanced and polished journals. We got lucky and Jeff got the last set of Mahle main bearings in the US, so now the assembly has begun. Check out the video on how easy the crank spins....just perfection.

I took Varia's suggestion and purchased the upgraded Ultra Tandem brake booster and master cylinder kit. The machine work for the mount is 1st class. The only thing I would complain about is the kit came with everything but the to specail nuts to attach the master cylinder to the booster, which you have to order from VW or Audi...here is the P/N if needed WHT-000-428

Jeff is on a roll and has the short block built out. The expertise and quality of the build has far exceeded my expectations. Very happy that I was able to get a engine built before he retires.
