Paint correction - also known as swirl mark removal or machine polishing, paint correction is the reduction or removal of marks in the top layer of paint to produce a more refined finish.

Paint correction will involve machine polishing and various grades of cleanser, polish, or compound. The majority of work is usually done with orbital or rotary machine polishers to get the best level of correction.

Great paint correction requires a high level of skill and concentration, but done properly, paint correction can transform the look of a car by dealing all the issues discussed above.

Reasons to seek out paint correction services:

- Road grime, grit, tar
- Bird crap, dead bugs, and tree sap
- Water spots
- Improper wash techniques and products used
- People brushing against the car with their clothing or bags
- Holograms and swirls caused by lack of proper training and techniques

Sidenote-I instructed in an M coupe at VIR last fall and was pretty impressed with the car. The owner driver had done a nice job of track preparing it and to some extent it reminded me of a 911. Odd, of course, given the difference in engine location.
