Mud Cleaning
We have just lived through Hurricane Sandy , whose waters flooded our streets with bay water and mud. As we clean up and start to resume our normal lives I realize my cars need a good cleaning. My concern is that the mud that has accumulate will not come off by rinsing. I am leery of taking a sponge to the cars as it will cause scratches as the particles are moved.
Any ideas?

I would start soaking the car with car wash soap and letting it sit on the paint for 10 minutes. Follow this with a good rinse using your garden hose. This should remove most of it. Once you're done I would apply a fresh layer of soap and then start washing. Work from top to bottom, rinses frequently and change the rinse water frequently. I would recommend a high quality wool mitt as well since it can pull the heavier dirt/mud away from the paint when your washing.
Good luck!
