Hi,

My car was serviced by a local dealer and they had their parking lot paved during that time. Now my white car has black tar specks all over the car: glass, lights, and body. What's the correct procedure to clean the specks off the car? Clay, polish, and wax? I will ask the dealer cover the costs.

if you are performing the work yourself, you may want to start with a quality "Bug n Tar" remover with a microfiber towel, to loosen/remove and tar. Be sure to turn towel frequently to avoid scratching paint with debris. follow w/ clay, polish (if required) and wax.

If the dealer doe it, be sure it's being properly and not a "quickie" detail job done by some dealers that could do more harm than good in the long run.

I agree with Rob, a good Bug and Tar Remover should work well.

Goof Off is a strong citrus based cleaner that I've used on a couple of our cars with good success. I would recommend cleaning a panel at a time and washing with soap/water immediately so the cleaner doesn't sit on the paint too long.

should be the dealer's problem but I would make sure they are going to properly remove them.

as for what would work try Stoner's Tarminator

but make sure you clean it off and wax the area over again.

As everyone has mentioned, use a bug or tar remover first. As amazing clay is, it will trap the grit in the asphalt and rub it around on the paint.

Gently remove the tar spots, wash the car. Clay, polish, and wax.

Be careful with the dealer though....unless they have people who care or are getting paid enough, they'll do more harm than good.

You're better off taking it to a qualified detailer or getting good products and doing it yourself and sending the bill to the dealer. Talk to your service adviser and tell him your plan and make sure he stands by it and pays you back.
