I was at an antique mall this past weekend and noticed that a guy selling old automobile-related material had 4 unopened pristine cans of Simoniz wax -- judging from the graphics, I'd guess they were late 1930s/40s. The guy said he bought a full unused case of the stuff about 10 years ago.

I wonder how the quality/chemistry of these products compares to what is on the market today? I presume that the chemistry has improved ... just wondering how they would have measured up. Or perhaps they used more carnuba back then?

Thoughts? Opinions? Any actual experience with the vintage stuff?

I've used Simoniz wax, it will break your arms removing it.

As you've said chemicals have come a long way since then, the solvent carrier systems make waxes much easier to use and mfg have learned that less (Carnauba wax) content is sometimes better, you just need to strike a balance between content, the goals for the product and usability
