Porsche Turbo 3.6 Detailed
 

The color, Signal Green. The Car, 1994 Porsche Turbo 3.6. Combined we have a very rare Porsche exotic.

If I am told right, Porsche only made the 3.6's for one year which is 1994. And so far I have not been able to find another 3.6 in Signal Green so in my eyes it makes it rare....and it only has 19k miles on it!

Now the color is not every ones cup of tea but I am personally crazy over the car, not only for it being a Turbo, but the color is .....well "hot"! I called it a large lemon-lime Lifesaver while Ron called it a large green Jellybean smile.gif


The paint was in need of some love....not super bad but it had a lot of marring and some deep random scratches plus some environmental etching in the form of pitting and water spots. Some of the more severe etching would require wetsanding but we didn't want to go that far with such a car.

I used Optimum Polish on about 90% of the correction and finishing work with various pads. Orange, green, Lake Country white, blue, black and finishing white pads plus some wool in a few areas. A few areas had to have some Hyper and regular Optimum Compound.

Also had a chance to try out some other products like Meguiars pads, Zaino tire dressing, some new leather cleaner/conditioner and a foaming glass cleaner. I buffed on the paint for at least 9 hours total and then Ron came by and helped me finish it out.

It has been finished in Opti-Seal, 2 coats were applied yesterday and Ron applied 2 more coats today so we have a total of 4 coats. Sadly I have no BEFORE pics and I also have no AFTER shots in the sun....the day I started it had an AM drizzle and very overcast. Today when we finished it was bloody cold and rained all dang day! So all I have for the moment are inside AFTER pics, sorry guys. I hope to get some more pics Monday so till then please enjoy these 4.

Now I hate taking pictures inside under lights such as these as each shot from a different angle can produce different results or looks from the paint. The above picture though best resembles what the paint looked like, color wise, in person if you had been standing there. As of yet I have no idea what it looks like in the sun as we have had no sun shine here for the last 2 days....it's 32 with wind and sleet in South Texas....in MARCH!!! It should be 89 with 90% humidity :eek:

I hope to get some sun pictures and I'll post them up also.

An amazing amount of shine, even under the shop lights.

That green isn't my cup of tea, but beautiful none the less...

How did you like the "new" products you tested?

Anthony I hope I am not asking an obvious question but do you use a orbital like the Porter Cable 7424 when you work on projects like these?

I am in the market for a polisher and not sure how bad I want one yet because my car isn't in need of the polishing by machine but it seems like it would be easier to apply the sealants and wax by machine rather than hand. Can you provide any insight on this?

I wish we would see more of these unique colors. This car is stunning. I suppose there is a risk in ordering a color that may turn people off at resale time, but I would rather own one of these than the "safe" colors. My car is white by the way so I should put my money where my mouth is!!!

I think most guys on the 964 board would agree that the '94 3.6 Turbo is THE most desireable 911 ever built. The slant nose "S" is probably the only car a bit more desireable. The 3.6 Turbo is the last of the old school single Turbos on a two wheel drive platform. Those rims are every 964 owner's dream rims. 3 piece Speedlines right from the factory.

This car is pure automotive porn. Freak color, big fenders, 18's from the factory, 355 hp, 383 ft lbs (remember, all in a rear drive platform, no whimpy AWD to distribute that power! ;) )...what more do you want? The black interior is a bit boring, but I'll take a Signal Green 3.6 Turbo any day of the year.

Personally I am not a big 911 guy.......BUT a 3.6 turbo is on my future wish list.....the slants are more rare...but I love the look of the standard 3.6....something about its look I just love....one day!!

I use a Cyclo, which is an orbital but it has a dual pad instead of a single pad.

The PC is a nice machine for applying glazes, waxes and sealants but it is limited on its correction abilities. The Cyclo is a bit better in those terms but for ultimate paint correction a rotary is supreme.

If all you need is light correction then go with a PC.

It's not ready just yet. We are waiting on labels now and they are taking longer than usual because the label I created is a bit difficult. I have not talked with David in a few days so I have no idea where we are with the product right now.
