Track day at Grattan with 3 ***** Racing this weekend. I'll be there on Saturday. Last time I checked there were still a couple open spots for Saturday and several more on Sunday.

I might try to make, if the wife doesn't have a todo list. I want to see how it handles with the new suspension.

It turned out to be a rough day at the track this weekend. Not for me, but for too many others. Most of the track days I've done have been tame and low on carnage. Saturday was different. One Porsche went off the end of the main straight and into a barrier. I think a Cayman R spun off into a guard rail somewhere. Someone in their 350Z blew up their rear drive module. An E36 BMW blew a radiator hose and coated half the track in coolant. I gave up and went home after a Corvette lost its brakes, blew through a guard rail and wound up in the trees. Driver was OK, car was toast. I was worried karma might decide it was my turn to have a failure.

On the bright side, after getting my head out of my *** and remembering how to drive I was able to stick with a 2018 Camaro ZL1 1LE running Pirelli slicks. Unfortunately my new data logger wasn't configured correctly and didn't log any lap times. No idea if the new tires are producing faster lap times. It didn't feel any faster, and that's a disappointment.

Since I spend most of my time lurking around in the 964 form, I'm glad I stumbled onto this thread for MI events. Will anyone be attending the events this weekend with the Concourse event at St. John's in Plymouth? It looks like there will be a strong Porsche focus, celebrating the 70th anniversary of the company.

I hadn't planned on attending, but might try to make it down there. I thought the show was on Saturday and I'm busy, but now I see that the main show is Sunday.

Track day coming up. At the moment it looks like 18 entry spots still available for 3 ***** Racing at Grattan on 2-Sept. I'll be there if anyone else shows up.

A little embarrassed that I didn't know about this thread, glad I found it though...

A few track days on my radar, anyone else considering these?

I was just at Grattan on Sunday. Will probably be back at the end of the month. Undecided if I'm going to do 29th or 30th. Leaning toward Saturday just so I have a recovery day before heading back to work.

It was quite fun this weekend. Rained my entire drive to the track Sunday morning, but stopped just prior to the drivers meeting. First run group on track in the morning and it was still really wet. RE71R's DO NOT have any grip in the wet! I was skating around so much that I had to let a bone stock BRZ pass me because I was too slow. Someone in a 991 Turbo S thought he was going to be the hero with his AWD system until he looped in in Turn 3 and backed way off. My fastest lap in that session was 1:57. As the sun came out the track dried out and lap times dropped. Best lap for the day was a 1:30.2. Still a long way off my personal best, I was able to hang with the Turbo S for most of a session. I can't match that power on the straight, but I caught him through the corners. Turn 1 never fully dried up and always had two streams flowing across it. It really screwed up the line, but it was fun trying to find a line which offered grip and improvements on lap times. The worst spot on track was between 5A and 5B (or 6 and 7 depending on what group you run with) in the esses. There was at least an inch of standing water all day. Tires were always wet into 5B and made it tough to climb the hill and put any power down into the bowl. All told it's probably one of the best days I've had at the track. The water made it a touch dangerous if you weren't patient on the throttle, but it added a level of complexity which was fun to sort out.

Sounds like great fun, even with the partial wet conditions. Can I ask what size RE71R's you are running? They didn't have them in my preferred sizes, so I went with Sport Cup 2s. I was looking for a 295/30 rear.

Apologies on the tire size question, forgot that I wasn't in the 996 section...
