If they are still around I think Averill Racing in Madison Heights might be the only local store to carry racing helmets. More likely you need to order online. Saferacer.com has a lot of good options. Measure your head, pick a size, buy two or three different brands. Wear them all for at least 20 minutes to make sure they don't develop any pressure points and discomfort. Return the ones that don't fit or aren't comfy for 20 minutes. My helmet is an HJC AR-10. I also have an old, out-of-date G-Force that was quite comfy. Most of my co-workers have Bell helmets. Don't waste money on carbon fiber. The cheap ones aren't actually any lighter than the normal polymer helmets. You have to spend a couple thousand dollars before a carbon fiber helmet is worth the money, and at that point it doesn't make sense unless you're actually racing.
Ask as many questions as you want. I'm happy to answer. I like to see people properly prepared and having as much fun as possible, as safely as possible.

wow this is going to be an expensive weekend lol I'll probably look for the cheaper helmet. If I like this and want to do more.. I'll invest in a better one.

Never heard of Conquer helmets, but as long as it has a Snell certification it passes the minimum safety spec. More expensive helmets tend to have more ventilation / air flow, and start to use lighter materials. Give it a try. If it fits, great.

I am running pagid yellows, very pleased on the track. I tried the pagid black compound, it was amazing for the track, but way too loud for the street. Yellows are the balance I was looking for.

At Grattan, i also ran OEM pads/rotors with SRF fluid and it was fine (even during the 130mph pucker). Of course the bite is weak, but you can plan for that. I only had trouble with the OEM pads at M1, there are too many braking points and no way to cool the brakes!

thanks. I'm excited to experience this, my wife and son are coming to watch. I wish I could get my wife want to learn to drive a manual so she could get more involved. the audi tt we just bought is a monster but she just doesn't have a desire to learn. the supercharged fiero I'm building for her will be hers.. wonder how that would do on a track lol

Nice tekkie, we need to meet. I love that you had an issue and then over-modded to make sure it doesn't happen again. From the sound of your upgrades, you are going to love the feeling at the track.

The helmet came in last night. quite comfortable compared to our quad helmets we wear when we go up north riding. I'm going to go through my suspension and brakes and check everything over during the next week before the event. Just want to make sure everything is solid.
I drove the car to work yesterday(2nd time getting it out this summer so far)... wow this car is fun after the upgrades. with the suspension and engine stuff, it feels like a different car then it did last year. I plan on driving it a lot this year

If you want a decent checklist for going over the car, this is the inspection sheet the 3 ***** Racing group uses for their track days.

I'll be going over my car this weekend as I'll be replacing rotors and installing my summer / track wheels.

I was just talking to a guy here at work about next weekend. He told me he used to take his vette there 10 years ago. told me how coming out of the turn for the straight way there is a lift/bump in the track and it tossed him off and slid out. did some damage ... I really don't want to damage my car lolol I just did all that work to it .. not sure how crazy I'll get. He said usually the first round if you haven't been there you get a ride along to show you the track.. is that true?
