Default Car Storage in Chicagoland

Hi folks, longtime lurker... I have a growing family an would like a place to store my Cayman S for the next year or two(parking is very tight where Im at). Does anyone have any suggestions for reasonably priced storage options or an extra spot in their garage?

thanks!

Where in Chicago?

If you want in and out privileges you're going to pay more.

The Last Detail
Classic Car Garage
Rennology

They all offer storage.

A lot of us used to be at Unique Auto Storage but they closed up for good.

Some folks just rent a storage unit instead of bespoke car storage.

Ill have to do a hunt come fall for winter storage too.

Location, location, location.

I've paid as little as $120/month for a pre-paid one year contract at self storage locations. I think it was 10x20. Also have been quoted north of $250 for the same place.

Timing matters too. Inventory goes down as moving season picks up, driving up rents.

Call around. They are very competitive amongst themselves. Even the same company. They might price match or beat out a competitors price.

Find a place with an overhead light. Can be converted to a plug for the battery maintainer. Don't tell anyone.

Pest and rodent control are valid concern, so ask about their program and practices.

thanks for the replies! I'll look at some self storage places in the loop/west loop and report back what I find, I'd like to be around 125-150 a month, although that may be a pipe dream...

Field Harbor Parking currently is $175/month. 24/7 access. The downside is no power outlet.

Be wary of mice if doing long term, lost engine harness to mice last winter! But I live next to the forest as well.

I used to store my 991 at Lake Forest Sports Cars - I think it was like 175 a month and they put a tender on it? They fill up fairly quick though... In and out, but they needed a day's notice, and they would wash/service, etc if you needed it...

Along the same lines, any ideas for trailer storage? Looking at an ATC or Featherlite open - 18 or 20'. Storage in the North Shore, but open to reasonable drive... Storage units are tough, as they have 8' doors, and the trailers are wider...

Spoke with Rennology 3 weeks ago and was quoted $720 for approximately 4 months of storage. Sounds like they cycle a Battery Tender and start the car regularly. I was successful in deterring my rodent population last year, so hoping to keep the cars at home again this year with rodent defense.

Just about the worst thing you could possibly do during long-term storage.
