955/957 Cayenne DIY: Hatch Microswitch
1 Attachment(s)
This was bugging me, my hatch glass would only pop with the key remote, not with the switch mounted underneath the wiper.
I looked around and the switch is pretty cheap, ~$25 from various vendors. I got lucky and found a brand new one here on Rennlist that only cost me the price of shipping. Install is pretty easy, here's what I did... Remove the black plastic cover, it's held on with clips on either side and the bottom. Be very gentle with it, the clips are very easy to break. I broke one clip even with taking my time, but it still seems to hold just fine. Now remove the 13mm nut that holds the wiper arm on. Fold the wiper arm out at you and gently rock it back and forth to remove it. If it's seized in place use a gear puller. Mine popped right off. Now take a 22mm and remove the large nut holding on the assembly. Pop the hatch glass open. Pull the hatch microswitch off. Remove the black plastic trim on the back side of the hatch glass by pulling gently. Remove the two 10mm nuts and pull the assembly down. Unclip the wiring harness. Reassembly is the reverse of removal. Before you put the wiper arm back on, activate the rear wiper so it'll go to its "parked" position. Here's why mine wasn't working... Attachment 1229413 |
Thanks for the DIY, I will try mine in the fall when I bring the Cayenne out for winter!

I'm in the middle of replacing my micro switch and need some guidance. I removed the wiper arm and 24mm nut. But it feels impossible to remove the switch as the bolt coming thru it feels seized onto the round copper ring. It wd-40 the crap out of it and tried turning the black plastic housing but I cannot slip it off. I also removed the 2 nuts that hold the bracket on from inside the trunk area and tried tapping the bold head hoping to back it out of the copper ring....And advise from someone that has done this before would be helpful!
Thanks in advance!:surr: |
Try PB Blaster. At the end of the day the old micro switch is going to get thrown away, so use a dremel to cut it off.
Just be careful to only cut thru the micro switch housing |
Thanks Docwyte! PB blaster didn't work after all....then followed your lead and ended up using the dremel to cut off the plastic surround and then timing the brass ring back to the screw with the dremel! Thanks!

No worries, glad to help

Wire is broken there. Not sure why that happened, previous owner had it fixed by the dealer. Maybe the tech didn't pay attention when he routed the wires...

Very nice DIY write up. thanks!

Wanna come and change my spark plugs? Only took you 9.5 minutes!

That's my next job. How'd you get a new torque arm and 8 spark plugs for ~$20?
|
Ops...that's an error on my part. Torque arm was $70 and spark plugs were around $20 from rock auto.
|
$3 a plug? RM European has them for $11.60 a plug, Beru 14 F-6 DPUR021...
|
I didn't use OEM Beru plugs hence the cheaper cost. Beru isn't the only company that can make a platinum spark plug for our cars.
