Default H9 (95R) battery group size

Just want to add a few details to this great DIY. First off, I don't know how common it is but my 09 CTTS has one battery under the drivers seat with a 110 Ah capacity, corresponding to the JOZ (or is that J0Z?) option code (850 CCA). After much research, it is a H9 (95R) group size which measures 15 9/16" x 6 15/16" x 7 1/2" (L x W x H). None of the local auto parts computers list H9 (95R) as a compatible size, only the smaller H8 (49) group size with correspondingly reduced 100 Ah capacity (730 CCA). If H8 is indeed the "normal" battery size for most Cayennes, I wonder if the larger battery would fit since the width and height are exactly the same, so the hold down clamps would still work. Potentially easy mod that others can chime in on if they are replacing a smaller stock battery.

For those in the Los Angeles area, Interstate Battery in San Gabriel carries a direct OEM replacement for $217. Here are their spec and price sheets (H9 bottom rows).

Here is the old battery compared with the new German-made one from Interstate. Exact match, down to the VW/Audi stamping by the negative terminal

I changed the factory battery at the 5 year mark, as it was cranking noticeably slower, especially when the car was left out during cold nights or after a few days in the garage. Parasitic drains like the entry and drive feature probably shorten battery life a bit, so next time I'll change it at the 4-4.5 year mark just to be safe.

Great thread. Thanks for the info! Has anyone retrofitted the dual battery option on their Turbo? If the second one is located in the trunk, it may not be easily done...

Thoughts?

Cheers,
TomF

speaking of battery my 2011 CS
Is using

105Ah
580A Din
950A

this battery can be bought from VW for around 350$
7P0 915 105D

This is an AGM battery ... couldn't find replacement with this high cranking power and capacity.

So went with one from VW.

AGM battery
Voltage [V]: 12
Battery Capacity [Ah]: 105
Cold Cranking Amps (CCA), EN [A]: 950
Length [mm]: 393
Width [mm]: 175
Height [mm]: 190

The MT5 is close but not exact.

100 less CCA

PS, the battery should be registered with the car for correct charging profile as there is no regulator on alternator.

This apply to 2011+ not sure about previous

I believe that MT5 is the 95Ah one on the chart above.

And the VW/Porsche one would be the 110Ah

I believe the Cayenne V6 and Diesel call for the 520 A DIN - 92aH. Since you do not have Eco Stop on the diesel, I guess you will not need or want the AGM. I think this would use the MTP-49/H8. I think If you put the AGM in that you need to reprogram. Also, if you put jumper cables on the car, you will can change the battery without losing all your settings.

Does this make sense?

Default Worked!! Thanks

My truck started off with the following symptoms ;

-dip beam error
-turn single error
-side marker error

I first replaced all bulbs and cleaned and lubed the headlights and sockets but problem still continued. After reading through this forum I decided to swap out my battery as last ditch effort. Battery swap worked and resolved all alerts.

So thanks for this thread.

Just a quick follow up.. I guess I spoke too soon after battery swap. Head lamp kept going off even after swap. What I noticed when using the electronic gel was that all pins were not sitting in all the way. I cut off the bracket that holds the socket and plugged in the direct to light. Now all 100%. I was very close to taking to dealer .

-dip beam error > (If head lamp flickers then bulb shot or check headlight socket.)
-turn single error > (This went away after using electronic gel or check socket.)
-side marker error > (Bulbs needed replacing)

I just replaced mine in my 2005 CTT. Not hard at all. Put an AutoZone Duralast Gold H8 in.

I'm curious, I believe it's an original battery. I see 04 stamped on the lead post, is there any other way to determine the age of the battery?

If it is original, 10 years old is exceptional. The most I've seen batteries last in the past are 5 - 6 years.

I changed out my battery on my '04 CS a month or so ago... easy process. But now I'm getting some odd lights on the dash. I have the "!" light, and my display is showing "Air Suspension" fault. And my gas gauge isn't working (buried to the right). Took to my mechanic, and he said he's not able communicate witht the dash module... any ideas on if this is a battery related issue or is my computer module fried?

I'm trying to get it made ready for sale, and obviously want to clear any lights ahead of this.

I went to Advance Auto Parts West Palm Beach ...
and got a Autocraft platinum AGM #10210828 Model H8AGM
$188.99 36 month FREE replacement if any defects...No Q asked

This was a EXACT factory replacement, it fitted, was the top of the line battery over the gold model. The exact size as I took my battery in and even the plastic clamps were exact. The battery posts were oem size, there was a breather tube in the exact same spot.

This is 900 CCA and wound over the Pepper starter so fast I was amazed...this battery has some power wow!

I did the job myself in a hour...check out this guys youtube

Make sure you connect a trickle charge under the hood before you pull the old battery or all your settings/radio codes will be gone!

Anyways the clerk said this Batt will go 7 years...its a good one...
