Default Oil Light reset

Great write up and comments to all. I'm about to change the oil on my 12 TT...However, I was wondering...If I change the oil prior to the "service" light illumination, does the computer know that the oil has been changed, thus eliminating the illumination of the "service oil" light?

Thanks again.

No. It has no knowledge that the oil has been changed. You need a tool to reset the oil change warning, or you have to visit the dealer and have them reset it.

Tools include: Durametic, iCarScan, and a number of others that are discussed at length in threads in the normal Cayenne discussion forum.

Just finished my first oil change. Thanks for the write up, very helpful. That oil filter was a pain in the butt to get to. Everything else was pretty straight forward. Thank you!

After changing my oil recently, I torqued the OEM drain plug to the 37 ft-lbs. spec. Some have said that they have had no problems at this level while others have noticed a slight leak. I am getting a slight dampness. So, I call my local dealership and they only go to 30 ft-lbs. Also confirmed that spec with my trusted independent shop. Just thought I would get this out to help others.

Going forward I now have a LN Engineering magnetic drain plug and 19 ft-lbs. is the spec. In this case you can actually go by the spec.

When changing oil - the goal with the drain plug is to very slightly crush the aluminum washer that you replaced with a new one before installing the drain plug. The crushing of the washer is what provides the seal. Engage brain before installing - with experience you can feel the crush just as it starts. DO NOT reuse the crush washer.

I just changed my oil, thank you for the write up it made my life much easier. Now though the oil reading is saying "oil level is currently not available". I drove the car for 15 minutes and parked it for a few and it still won't
let me read the level. What gives?

Just went through this today, and like the last message it does take forever for oil level to show up again on the computer. I think I had to drive the car for almost 30 miles. In my case it did take almost exactly 9.5L of oil. I had a hard time getting the PDCC pipes out of the way. The oil was last changed at the dealership (not mine) and you wouldn't believe it but the PDCC pipes were zip tied in, I guess that was their shortcut for not unbolting it every time. I would also add that I had to really crush the oil filter into the filter cap for it to all fit properly, it took a lot of force to jam it into the little **** that it fits into.

Can someone post a picture of where exactly gasket seats on oil filter housing?
Is it like 1/4 of an inch away from the bottom or is it as close to the bottom as possible?

Can someone post a picture of oil filter housing with a gasket on it?
Is gasket supposed to be half an inch away from the bottom?

Assuming the 958 canister looks like the one from my 957 Turbo S since both are DFI motors, the o-ring gasket seats at the base of the threaded portion in its own groove. Here's a picture of the ECS Tuning billet filter housing cap I use and you can see that last groove before the sealing flange.

I've got a 2012 Cayenne Turbo.

Just removed my old plug that was put on by a quick oil change place. There was no washer there, but I don't trust that they did it right. I am finding contradictory info online as to whether or not I need just the plug, or if I need to add a washer.

Can anyone tell me definitively whether I need the washer or not?

I've never seen a drain plug that didn't have a crush or sealing washer. Also, don't use the published drain plug spec of 37 ft.lbs. It's too high. Use 19 ft.lbs. instead.

Just did a change on 2011 S. Drained for 30 min. After adding 10 quarts of M1 I still have one “dot” left to go on the electronic dipstick.
