Default Gas gauge malfunction?

2022 Cayenne turbo SE

normally when the gas tank is full, it shows a range of about 460 miles. I recently filled it and it showed a range of only about 380 miles. I figured maybe I didn’t top off the tank.

I drove about 75 miles, almost all on electric, and the range was reduced to 360 miles.

we’re leaving on a long trip tomorrow, so I topped it off with three more gallons of gas, which definitely topped off the tank.

However, the gas gauge didn’t change at all and showed the same 360 mile range.

Anybody here have any idea what might be going on?

The range is just an estimate. It's based on fuel level and recent fuel milage over some period (I don't know what the period is). Once on the highway you will likely see it go up. Is the actual fuel gauge showing full and then going down as you drive?

When I topped off the tank, with three additional gallons, I could actually see a little bit of gas in the neck of the fuel pipe, so I know it was completely full.

however, the fuel gauge showed 9/10 full, and as previously described, the range was only 360 miles versus the usual 450 or so.

I just drove it 25 miles, and it used up all the electricity in the battery, and started to use gas only. The fuel gauge showed an INCREASE to 366 miles from 363 miles while I was driving.

The car has over 20,000 miles on it, and 75% of all the miles driven have been electric only.

Every time I have filled the tank there has been well over 400 miles range — typically around 430 to 460.

I have done nothing recently to alter the usual pattern of my driving. The only thing that is different is that I normally wait until the tank has a quarter of a tank or less before filling it up. This is the first time I have ever topped it off.

we will drive it 360 freeway miles tomorrow to our destination, and will probably average at least 60 mph. It will be interesting to see what happens with the range as we drive.
