Default Crack in Rotor

While drying the wheels today, noticed a surface crack on drivers side rear rotor. Can’t feel it when running a fingernail over it, but I’ve never seen this on any previous cars I’ve owned. Would appreciate if someone with knowledge in this area would chime in. I’ll try and post off pic from my phone.

You need to take it in and have it evaluated asap. It really depends upon the depth, which they can measure, and that will determine if it needs to be replaced or turned down. Either way, that thing is going to need work.

Clearly this isn't the PCCB rotor but is this the base steel or ceramic coated PSCB rotor?

There is something called brake crazing which is more superficial and smaller imho. I am not sure what is happening here. Is this a new 2019 Cayenne? That rotor does not look vented to me. Also, how many miles do you have on your vehicle? That rotor looks to have serious miles on it. Did you post in the wrong forum?

OC, it’s a base 19 with 8000 miles, no track days

Well I would get it checked out at the dealer. It is probably ok since its not edge cracked. However, I have never seen a Cayenne rotor crack like that, especially after only 8000 miles. Maybe its a defect. Let us know how it turns out.

This does not look like a crack. It's almost certainly a brake pad imprint - basically a line made by an edge of a brake pad hitting the rotor surface and transferring some material. It's very common. If it does not catch a fingernail and there is no vibration, it's safe to drive. I'd just check again after a couple of days of driving. It should get less noticeable.

Good eye, hit it with some steel wool.
