soft close door?

My ambassador recommended I order the soft close doors option, saying that they are heavier than those in the 958. Just checking the wisdom of you guys here. Order or not?

Gmoe01 12-10-2018 02:20 PM

I ordered them on my E-Hybrid. I think they add a real quality feel. And it's just nice not having to slam the doors!

Pointbye 12-10-2018 02:42 PM

Must have

visitador 12-10-2018 03:03 PM

Thanks both for the advice. Unlike Gmoe01, trying to keep my options budget within the cost of a new subcompact car. Not easy

WCH BOS 12-10-2018 03:09 PM

I have them on my X5M and they are nice but most people don't know that you don't have to close the door and so it's an underused option. There are also stories of people getting fingers pinched so if you have small children, I'd keep it in mind. I decided not to include them in my build as a way to offset the number of performance options I selected.

Skipped 'em

We passed. They're a nice feature -- the rear hatch on my wife's current SUV is a soft-closer. But we didn't want to add one more thing (or four, actually) that will break and cost Porsche Dollars* to fix down the line.

And like WCH BOS, we did our best to parse our options to things we really wanted. This option did not fall in that list.

* One PD (Porsche Dollar) is equivalent to 10 US dollars as of 12.10.2018

Yeah, that is about right. lol

Ok, I may just skip it in favor of the air suspension. On a different note, $400 for Black side window trim? I was already screaming when I ordered my diesel in 2013 and had to pay $150 for that. Porsche $ inflation, I guess.

WCH BOS 12-10-2018 04:37 PM

I ordered the black window trim because I am used to BMWs where black are the performance models and it contrasts with the White exterior. However, Audi uses sliver window trim to demarcate performance models so you would be safe with the silver too. This one is a personal preference one for sure.

Agreed with WCH BOS completely. I did not order it with our 2019 Cayenne. I got my finger pinched in my BMW 535 one time and wouldn't want another vehicle with this option.

I took delivery of my 2019 Cayenne 3 weeks ago. IMO soft close doors are not needed. Spend it on something else.

Ouch! Never thought of that.

I ordered my Cayenne with the soft close doors. I’ve had it on my X5M and only once closed the door closed on my fingers when I was closing it slowly. Most people get in and slam the doors so you do always have to remind people who ride with you to “Don’t Slam The Door”. My wife had it first on her 550ix and just got it again on her E43. I like the option and can’t wait until late January when my Cayenne arrives.
Although my number must have option was the Head Up Display.

We have them on our 2018 Q7, but didn't get them on our Cayenne. Turns out, I've gotten use to them and neglected to fully close the door on the Cayenne the first 3-4 times I closed it! That being said, they are definitely not needed and the doors are not heavy (Q7 doors are much heavier, as are the X5 doors).

Thank you all for your opinions. I test drove a base Cayenne and the doors do not feel that much heavier than my current 958. So, I decided to save the money for other options, such as the air suspension

You will find if you don't slam the door, it will not close properly, and stop where soft close door will pick it up. It's never a problem, porsche creates the problem and sells you a solution.

I don't have and I don't think it's worth the money.
