Default Wow new Cayenne Hybrid is impressive for "cheap"

The 2019 plug-in hybrid Cayenne is faster than the Cayenne S (4.7 vs 4.9 0-60) and it's the same price, $80,000

That's 0.7 seconds faster than the last model, probably because torque has increased from 435 lb-ft to 516 lb-ft

http://www.autoguide.com/auto-news/2...th-455-hp.html

I love my turbo but it would be nice getting 23+ real world mpg as reported by members of fuelly, and that's the current models, the 2019 will likely do better

If you need to tow, check rating. The hybrids are rated lower than non-hybrids. I guess too much load on the electrical system.

I didn't think you could tow AT ALL with the S-eHybrid?

The 2019s will tow to 7700 lbs per the configurator. Very cool.

Keep in mind that the hybrid is 700 lbs heavier than the base with which it shares an engine. That's a LOT Of extra weight. The xC90 hybrid adds 500 lbs by comparison. I believe the 958 e-hybrid was similar. There is no free lunch.

There are several reviews of the hybrid out on YouTube. I think it makes sense if you can charge it and use it in EV mode often.

I watched a review recently where he said that the acceleration under normal driving in the hybrid was underwhelming. He said that the plug in hybrids aren't like the pure electrics where you get immediate torque. Is this correct? I believe he said that it felt like major turbo lag. Any thoughts?

I've driven both e-hybrid Cayennes and Panameras as loaners. They are impressive in terms of efficiency and are smooth. However, they are noticeably sluggish and you feel the weight of the batteries. I don't know if the new ones will be different but I was left with the impression that if you wanted to be fuel efficient there are better options out there that are certainly cheaper for this type of driving experience. For me a P-car or SUV is because you want the driving experience.

The new ones have a different ethos. Look at the Panamera...the top trim is the Hybrid. The Cayenne E Hybrid is more focused on S performance for Base fuel economy.

I was seriously considering it. I had a Pannemera e plug in loaner and most of my daily short trips were all on electric. Then, I noticed it’s fatal flaw for me. It’s wading depth is only 5.9” vs 20 for the others. I live at the coast and on high tide, if we have torrential rains, intersections and roads flood quite regularly. I don’t want to be stuck or feel like I can’t get home because I can’t drive thru a foot of standing rain water.

Same here - need to be able to drive through close to a foot of water or slush without worrying. I suspect that may be more precaution than anything else, but I would not want to test it.

I noticed in the previous version of the Cayenne hybrid they labeled it Cayenne S e-hybrid. It would appear this is no longer the case for the new models. On the website, and all the reviews I watched, it is simply the “Cayenne” e-hybrid. I wonder if they are saving a hybrid “S” spot for something or will it only be the Cayenne e-hybrid and perhaps a range topping turbo S e-hybrid much like in the Panamera line. The Panamera is now also just a Panamera 4 e-hybrid with no “S” and the range topping turbo S e-hybrid.
