Brake pad wear light
Anyone know what the remaining thickness is on the pads when the wear light comes on?
They just failed my state inspection for the front brakes (and say the backs are at the limit) when my wife took it, but the wear lights haven't tripped yet.
I'm looking for when the light trips so I can compare that to my sate regs to see if I need to go kick someone or if really need to pony up for new brakes right now.
Still braking fine with plenty of bite and no squeal or grinding so it's not a safety issue at this time. I do have to say, however, that I'm impressed that I've gotten 35k out of them (factory set) as I tend to eat through pads and rotors the way I drive

I'm no expert but I searched a ton about brakes the last week for a different reason. Anyways, I think Porsche recommends changing pads/ rotors at 3mm. And I think the break sensor is usually around 2.5mm. Then people report driving another 1000-2000 miles on them before actually changing them out.
Hope this helps (and is right)

State law is 2/32". My Indy (they don't do inspections themselves) says the light should pop at 4/32".
They'll look at them tomorrow for me, but think this might be a "woman driving an expensive car" scam...
The Indy also wants about $300 less for the job than the inspection station quoted too...

I'll let have Gnat take first crack as I don't want to be "that guy"...but if not, I may be interested. Buying a 2013 CTT with 6mm left on the pad. I think the dealer will provide labor on new pads if I supply them. So this may work out nicely. Just let me know

make me what you think is a fair offer if you get it. Also, make sure the diesel and turbo use the same pads. I'm pretty sure the calipers are the same, and the difference is how far out they are mounted for the different rotor sizes.

Official Porsche Cayenne diesel front & rear brakes: replace at or before 2.5mm to avoid possible wear sensor tripping (wear sensor may trip at any point between 2.5 - 2.0 mm). Wear sensor will trip constantly at 2.0mm pad thickness and pads must be replaced at 2.0mm.
