Default What do you tow? (958 Pic-thread)

What do you tow? I have not seen a towing thread anywhere on either of the Cayenne forums so I'll start this one as I've been waiting to tow my boat before I did.

I have this 6,500lb boat/trailer.

I towed it home from where it stays for the winter and my 2016 CD towed it every bit as good as the 2012 Touareg TDI I had(and am just waiting for VW to buy it back):

I will admit though, I do like the Cayenne a LOT better. I did average 15.9 mpg which is better than the TDI did at 13.5 mpg-both based on the onboard computers.

This past winter, I had this stuff on the back:

Back in 2013, I had a Tundra access cab. My wife and I had our daughter behind her or in the middle of the back seat rear-facing as she was only 2 years old, and my son was forward facing behind me. As she was squished in her seat as the seat needed to be slid forward, as soon as she said, "This is the last time I can ever ride like this in the truck." I knew that I needed a new tow vehicle as even if the kids got older, the space in an access cab just doesn't cut it for kids or adults. I had a G8 GT at the time and realized that I have to go down to one vehicle. I had already traded in a Corvette for the G8 GT and I thought I'd keep the Corvette forever as I loved it and do miss it.

I considered every tow vehicle out there but settled on a 2012 Touareg TDI after a test drive. I had considered a 958 but was not hot on how it looked, especially the rear. Now with a 2016 CD, I'm in heaven and have the best of all worlds as I'm over my fast-car phase as I got a dual-sport bike to commute with and the CD is my tow vehicle, rainy-day, winter-beater as well as family-truckster.

Many are amazed at what the CD and the TDI can tow. Post up your pics of your 958 getting it done and having much fun.

Ben,

We've got similar seasonal towing duties up at our lake home in Northern Wisconsin..... Winter duty is hauling our Ski Doo's, while summer duty is really just putting our boat in the water in May and pulling out again in October! We're actually heading up next weekend to drop the boat in the water, but I figure since you started this post I'll show the wife's Q7 pulling our sleds from 2 years ago as I never snapped a pic this winter behind my Pig!

Our twin Ski Doo's for winter fun (about 1,800lbs) ....

And our 23' ski & wakesurf boat for summer (about 5,000lbs on the trailer)

used to tow this:

but now have this for the racecar

I bought a Ram truck to tow with instead of the Cayenne for a little more buffer and because its easier to load up a pickup box with extra stuff, but the Ram is a little big for everyday driving so I'm thinking of getting rid of it and towing with the CD again.

Enclosed trailer + car + gear is about 7000 lbs.

If I am reading the front plate correctly, it says Cayenne S Diesel. Porsche still selling diesels? :-)

Going back to towing with the Cayenne I think. My wife wants to sell her Z4 (2010 with 42000 miles) because she never drives it since getting the 1st Cayenne 4 years ago. She put like 200 miles on it in the last year and a half. So, I think we have decided to get rid of it and my Ram and get a Macan S, GTS or Turbo, and go back to towing with the CD.
