The way I understand it is, if we take the 50%, and then the buyback gets triggered, we would get the difference of what we got (the 50%).

If this hasn't changed, whatever you get before an unacceptable fix is declared should be deducted from the benefit/restitution calculations.

Default Another defeat device?

Hi, I'm new here, but saw the news out of Germany regarding the potential for another defeat device (gearbox software vs. engine management software being the earlier device)...for any of you German speakers, a video from Der Spiegel below.

http://www.spiegel.de/sptv/spiegeltv...a-1151736.html

Maybe this already has been addressed/isn't new news but, after a quick skim, I didn't see any earlier posts on this.

Very interesting read about the end of diesel. Might want to hold on to your neutered diesel until they outlaw it.

Default My dealer appears to only have appointments on Tuesdays. Which totally sucks because

I am 2 hours from the dealer and my only day off is on Fridays. I see patients from 8-6 on Tuesdays. I wonder if my wife can take the vehicle?

Pretty awful view of diesels in this article. Just can't get my head around the fact that the TDI uses about 2/3 the fuel of similarly sized gasoline cars, no soot, the only smell is the ammonia from the urea injection, and yet we are to believe they are worse overall for the environment. Gasoline powered cars are next...

It's The Atlantic.

If it were up to them we'd all be riding Unicorns that fart environment-cleaning rainbows.

I'm currently in the market for a 2014-2015 CD or Touareg Diesel, I'm assuming if I buy one now I wouldn't be part of the settlement? Maybe this has already been addressed, if so, can someone just link the relevant details.

Good luck in finding any TDI for sale in the land, especially the 3.0L TDI's.

As soon as I had found out after 02/2017, that the Gen1 TDI buyback was all but a done deal, I got myself a 2016 CD and am so glad I did as there have been about NONE for sale since.

If you can find one, you can be part of the settlement.

...unless the current owner already filed the claim. Better ask any potential seller about it because I don't think there is any other recourse if a current owner already took the first half of the settlement money.

Can't comment about the political nature of the web site, but I think we can all assume long-term diesel is going to die a slow death. Doesn't matter if a far right or far left publication is talking about it. Just this today is confirmation:

http://blog.caranddriver.com/oil-won...d-for-the-u-s/

Gas stations will slowly phase out diesel if there are less consumer oil burning car sales. Look at the gas station of the future:

Diesel passenger cars I'm sure will return to their previous levels of popularity. I don't see diesel pickup trucks going away any time soon though.

That might make diesel a little bit harder to come by... not that it's on every corner station now, but it wasn't completely impossible to find before. Might mean we do like I used to back in the day when I had a diesel pickup and just be more proactive in planning fuel stops.

I do not anticipate diesel fuel going away completely.
