On my 2011 CTT we turned it off once and it's been off since.
Whatever gas savings it offers is probably minimal compared to the constant on and off when in stop and go traffic. I don't have the strange exhaust issue that's been mentioned (maybe because I have an aftermarket Fabspeed on the car?) and enjoy listening to the v8 purr.

Yеah, that was in the days when you could choose things... Not anymore. Not from the factory at least

Brought my 2016 to the dealer to check for the brake pedal clip, and asked them to reflash the computer in case they made changes to the auto stop start. Now it has to be almost at a complete stop before it shuts down. Before it shut off at 4 km/hr which was really dumb.

Guys,
We cracked the Auto/Start/Stop on Cayenne 958. T-Design9.com now offers a memory module version for Cayenne. It will remember A/S/S, sport, and PSE setting for you!

Three Wheelin'
Newer cars it is not defeatable from a "remembering" setting...it's a cheap **** way for automakers to claim and extra 1mpg in EPA testing. Just wait until they take the button away too--one of many reasons I don't like many cars newer than the mid 2000s--more electronic mumbo jumbo, less connection with the driver, more stuff to break.

I don't think they'll take button away unless new regulations passed.
I'm pretty sure Porsche is happy to satisfy both greens and porshce owners with this sport mode button.
More, I would guess, they are very happy for aftermarket companies like T-Design9 to "fix" that sport and a/s/s button. They are not idiots and know that people don't buy Porsche to save fuel. So when people know that they can "fix" regulatory things - it sells more cars.
I have customers who wouldn't upgrade to default a/s/s models (2017) until they knew there's a fix.

I love my new '17 958 Turbo but the biggest complaint I have is the change to A/S/S. Not being able to save this setting is a daily annoyance.
Does anyone know if installing T-Design or other after market work around voids your Porsche's factory warranty?

Mine was the '17 958 they used to figure it out. The install is transparent to any systems in the car. Nothing will be affected by it. It works by listening to the bus signals for the console. It tracks what buttons are active and stores those settings. When you restart the vehicle the module pauses and then sends button press commands. The vehicle thinks the actual buttons were pressed and acts accordingly. It does not sit in-between the bus messages, so there's nothing for PIWIS or any diagnostic gear to 'see' on the bus.
Install is likewise pretty painless. Pop out a few panels, remove two screws under the ashtray, plug in the module and tuck it out of the way (it's small and there's plenty of room for it in there).

So we just bought a '14 S and there's no A/S/S on it; out of curiosity, when did P begin adding this "feature" to our beloved SUVs?

I think it was '17 that it became defaulted to always on without an option to remember it as off. Some previous model years would remember the last setting.
This new module overcomes the default-on setting. It remembers the last setting and selects that when you start again. If was off when you last shut off the ignition, it sets it back to off again.
I sort of wouldn't mind the feature if it wasn't so unpredictable. More often than not it's killed the engine just when I needed it. Like a short incline out of the neighborhood, where you really have to gun it to merge into morning traffic. Sit... wait... look for an opening... one's just about there.... >ENGINE CUTS OFF<... missed chance... repeat.... That and it inexplicably decides to almost immediately cut it off as I'm inching forward at a bank drive-up ATM. I'm like, WTF? It'll pause foreeeeeeeeeever at the stop sign... but BAM, cuts off right away in the parking lot?
