Default 2014 Cayenne Diesel, Vibration at idle

Just get some vibration at idle transmitted from engine to steering wheel, also on low speed traffic with low rpms.. I think this is normal but just wanted to check with you guys ...

thanks

Have it too. Drives me nuts. It sounds like a loose piece of plastic somewhere in the engine compartment that picks up a harmonic at a certain engine RPM and temp. Mine disappears when the engine warms up.

Default Diesel Vibration

I also have noticed more a vibration especially when the car warms up and the idle is at 600 rpm. When the car is cold the idle is about 800 it doesn't vibrate as much. We have 12000 miles on the car and are planning to take it to the dealer to ask about the vibration. Has anyone else asked about it?

Yeap. Lower the RPMs (e.g. warm idle) the worse it is.

I swear I don't remember it for the first 15k or so, but I've certainly been noticing it since my last OCI.

Thanks for your replies. If I get any info from the dealer, I will let you know. I also have a question into them on how I get power to the #4 pin (12 volts to charge trailer batteries) on my trailer plug. I installed a Prodigy RF controller on the trailer and want to be able to charge the battery in the trailer and have Pepper supply power to the trailer while the winch is running. Also the Prodigy won't come on unless I supply power to the #4 pin. I do this by unplugging from Pepper and running wires from the trailer battery and put 12 volts to the plug, I then hear a click in the prodigy, so I plug it back into Pepper and everything works great. Until the trailer sits for more than 2 hours at which point the Prodigy goes into sleep mode.

Default Interesting development

Took the wife's Cayenne in yesterday to investigate 3 noises (pet peeve of mine).

1. Dash rattle when cold. Pretty sure it's the shield over the instruments, because I can silence it with pressure

2. Something in the center console that sounds like some element going through a startup check sequence. Mechanical noise at regular intervals. Lasts ~1-2 minutes on a cold start; that is a new start where the interval is long enough to reset the current trip timer. I thought it might be the CD changer hunting for CDs, but we manually cycled that mechanism this morning and it's a very different noise. And, of course, the damn thing didn't do it this morning when I went in to listen to the various noises with the tech on a cold vehicle.

3. And the idle vibration. Here's where the development comes in. Turns out, there's a new recall to secure a line on the transmission. This could be the mysterious idle vibration. I'll know later today, after they complete the recall.

So, for everyone with the idle vibration, might be worth a call or trip to the dealer to see if it applies to your vehicle.

And if anyone has the mechanical clicking in the center console and has insight on what might be causing it, I would appreciate hearing your theories or experiences.

The heater and ac are all servo operated and you can hear them move at startup, shutdown.
The PCM has a hard drive in it, that you can hear spin up and down if you're up close to it.

Mine is due an oil change, will ask about the #3.

I've had a 2016 Diesel loaner for a little over 2 weeks now (brand new car by the way - dealers must be using them as loaners since they can't sell them) and the vibration is significant through the steering wheel... I thought I'd get my wife a Cayenne Diesel at some point but after noticing the steering wheel vibration, she said no way!

Yeah, we don't get any steering wheel vibration either. 67k miles on our '13. It's very tough to tell this car has a diesel engine most of the time. I do get a little diesel rattle on startup, and there are some slight drivetrain vibrations at certain RPMs, but all very minor. Certainly a far cry from my Cummins-powered Ram
