Cayenne Diesel - Performance Upgrade?
Hi all,
Do you know if there are any Porsche-approved performance upgrade tools (chips, remap, etc) which won't void the warranty? There are some quite expensive offerings from companies such as RUF, and they proudly present their modified Porsches at motor shows. But is any of them officially approved?
And your general opinion about post-factory peformance upgrades?
Many thanks.

I would think they would void the factory warranty. Of course, you can do anything you want if you are not concerned about the warranty. I did have a turbo cayenne on order and changed it to a diesel after reading the comparison test in the latest Car & Driver. I realized that the diesel performed better 0-60 time than my first 911.

It is indeed possible. Both I and Greg have the BlueSpark Pro + Boost control (BlueSpark Automotive based in the UK) on our US models and they make a world of difference. I have an involved thread about the installation and impressions so far over in the 958 forum on 6spd.
As far as voiding warranties go, I can't speak for Turkey as I have no idea what their laws are, but in the US no modification voids your warranty unless the MFG can show that the modification directly attributed to the failure. In such a case the onus is legally (Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act) on them to prove your modification is at fault and even if it is it only voids the warranty for the impacted parts. That said, an ECU tune (very possible with a poor job) or Tuner box (less likely) does run the risk of causing problems with your engine which is a very expensive part to drop your warranty on. You have to decide how much risk you can stomach.
Personally I was looking at the tuner box options before I actually placed my order and I ultimately went with the BlueSpark based on Greg beating me to the punch and so far I've been very happy with the very real increase in power and fuel economy.

Happy to help. The BSP was really easy to install and the company was really helpful when I called them with questions. Deciding which map I want to use has been the most difficult part of the process

Turbo chargers are fun things to play with and mostly safe if you aren't going crazy. The BMW guys have been doing it with their gas turbos here in the states for a long time. Turner boxes are usually substantially cheaper than an ECU tune too.

See the website. It's a British company, so prices necessarily fluctuate with the exchange rate. Note that there is a choice of four boxes - Pro+Boost being the most expensive. Prices include UK value added tax, but VAT is a domestic tax. That means US buyers can deduct 20% off the advertised price of box and shipping.

Though Bluespark is slightly over $400 now with exchange rate, it's the best $400 I've spent to date. Though I've only had it a week, I've only tried setting 7 so far just because I am so happy with it. I am pretty sure I've knocked a full second off of 0-60 and I am regularly getting 35mpg+ on 68-73mph cruises unless fighting lots of wind.
You've actually got to be careful because these things are already very quick 0-40. My quick launch would usually hit about 44mph in a 40mph zone and that same launch now hits 58mph so speeding tickets are going to be much easier to come by if not careful. Nice problem to have though . . .
Anxious to try some other settings.
Mine is the Pro+Boost
