Anyone who buys a piggyback box thinking they have less chance of breaking something or is invisible once removed is fooling themselves, IMO. It's a fact that a full ECU tune is the better way to extract safe power, and even my previous 2004 Chevy truck with the old-school 4L85 transmission had input shaft torque sensors available in the ECU to be read. Our Aisin 8-speed surely has sensors that can log how much power is coming into the transmission from the engine.
There's a risk with any modification.

This is where a 12 pack or case of beer helps when bringing in your car for service or warranty claims. Did that a few times. Now I get the nicer loaners and benefit of doubt on nagging issues.
Looking for a good tune still. There is still time. Tune for newly released cars takes about a year to go to market. I am patient.

I just measured 6.791s 0-100km/h on my chipped 3.0 TDI (that probably translates to sth like 6.6s 0-60mph). I have power braked the car. Power braking is worth about 0.4s.
The car did 305 crank hp on Maha dyno. The factory specs for my 2012 245hp model are 7.8s 0-100km/h, so we are talking about 1s less thanks to the new tune.
I have used Car Scanner app for iOS paired with WiFi OBD2 dongle for data acquisition.

which tune are you running?
How does it drive/compare in regular driving? IE lag, hesitation, noise etc?

I'm running a custom tune from a local specialist. The car was flashed via the OBD2 port. The car drives like a stock - afterall, you have the stock turbo, IC etc - it only pulls harder when you floor it.

I just emailed Malone Tuning to ask the status on the stage 3 tune for the 3.0 diesel with the GTB2566VK Turbo. From reading some of the VW forums, they are getting an easy 340-350hp. I will post up a response when I get it.

Reply so far from Malone.
Hi Rick,
We have no problem tuning for these kinds of setups and have been doing so for awhile, but we don't plan on stocking turbos for them. We're in Vancouver so land is very expensive ($400/sqft+) and prefer to focus on R&D rather than selling parts.
Thank you,
Owain

Reply from Darkside in the UK as to a turbo upgrade for the diesel. Hi
You have the Turbocharger 95812302520 which is a GTB2260VZK

We have an upgrade here
https://www.darksidedevelopments.co....k-housing.html
We do not have any other upgrades available for your model, but most customers would go for a DPF Delete and maybe an intercooler upgrade, as well as a custom tune
Thanks

2nd reply from Malone tuning. I am going to call one of their tuning shops in Florida tomorrow and see if they could install the turbo and the tune!
Yes as long as the mechanical work is solid we'll have no problem tuning it.

Reading through this - it seems like the Malone Tune is still performing really well and (seems) is setting the standard.
Considering a tune and exhaust option on my '13 CD.

In late 2013 I factory ordered what is probably the most highly equipped Cayenne Diesel in the country (>$90k MSRP). I wanted a comfortable long-distance DD for 20k+ per year, I added every option that would help make a great long distance cruiser: adaptive cruise control, thermal glass, Burmeister, upgraded leather, etc. I was originally going to order a GTS, but I loved the lazy low torque and 800 mile range of the Diesel. Within a month of getting the CD I installed the Bluespark box (fuel rail and turbo boost) based on reviews here. I would regularly get 35mpg on 200+ mile trips and it was fun to drive.Like many others I was tempted with the $11k and extended warranty attached to the fix. The combination of cold rattle, dangerous hesitation from a stop, and all the other issues mentioned in this forum made me immediately regret the decision. I tried the Bluespark unit again at a wide variety of setting and within a week took it off permanently. It did not fix the underlying issue of an engine tuned well out of its sweet spot by VAG to minimally meet emissions and avoid a very expensive 3.0 TDI buyback. I believe that turning up boost and fuel rail pressure on the “fix” tune is courting disaster, something expensive will break and likely quickly. After a bunch of research, I took the plunge with the Stage 2 Malone tune and installed it earlier this week. I don’t want to remove exhaust emissions equipment or overly stress an engine that I plan on adding another 100k to. After a few days I can say that the tune fully meets my expectations, the engine performs better than the pre-fix tune plus Bluespark. I expect the engine to last longer that it would on the post fix tune (unless you are always maxing out the turbo). The one remaining issue is the transmission “fix” that causes it to hold gears to a ridiculous extent when cold. Malone is working on this, and as soon as it is available, I will install it.

Yes, I've been following that thread as well. Seems like it is a revision to the pre-fix ECU tune, which would be a huge improvement. Malone sent me this in an email "at this time we're just tuning the ECUs, but we should have transmission solutions in the near future as well." I'm going to hold off on this for a couple of months as I would sooner get a TCU tune from Malone that is optimized to work with their ECU tune.
