Default What's the real world MPG for the turbos?

When I did the road trip to Canada, the best I saw was 18.5 mpg. That's mostly on I-5 freeway, A/C was always on, occasional sports mode, and my average speed was between 80 and 90. Today I put a full tank of gas, drove the car about 10 miles on mixed freeway and city and I got 12.5mpg. I just want to make sure this is normal and nothing is wrong with the car.

I have a 2016 Cayenne Turbo and on the highway, 75mph-80mph, I usually get around 21mpg. If I slow down to 70-75, it has gone as high as 23mpg. I believe it might be your speed, If I start driving faster than 80, the mpg really falls. If I drive it, "non spirited" around town, I consistently get 18mpg. If you get into the sports plus mode, don't expect any great gas mileage.

depends where you live. In LA my average speed is showing up around 13 MPH so you guessed it, my mileage stinks.

If you try real hard you can get this. On long trips, I hypermile the car as much as I can. Around town it's 16.5 to 18.

Wow, I'd be so happy to see 19mpg on mine. But 18mpg vs 23mpg is a big gap specially when there's only a 10mph speed difference.

It's really not the 10mph difference, it's the rpms in which engage the turbos. If you drive the car with the turbo engaged more, the mpg will drastically be reduced and the performance is increased. This isn't isolated to the Cayenne. I had a AMG (turbo) that was the same way. If I traveled at highway speeds with the cruise set at 70, the gas mileage was significantly higher than just setting the cruise at 80.

Default I guess CTT can be tamed too :)

I did some experimentation this morning. I tried to keep my speed between 65mph and 75mph and boost was between 0 to 2psi. First time did I see 20.1mpg on this car! It looks like I need to trim some weight on my right foot, LOL.

^That's only an 11 minute drive. You have to at least use a gallon of gas.

I know, I'm just trying to prove that it can be achieve assuming that the style of driving is the same all through a gallon of gas. But of course, we don't live in a perfect world.

It IS really the 10mph difference. It's the drag the extra speed costs, which is a function of the square of the speed. The faster you go, the more power (in an exponential curve) you need to maintain that speed and, of course, the more fuel you use to maintain that power.
