Navigation Map Updates
Has anyone successfully updated their GPS maps on their 2017 Cayenne? A year ago I purchased a Plan from Porsche:
So far, whenever I try to get an Update there's nothing available. Has anyone else had any success? Garmin typically has updates for their units every 90 days.

Afaik there is no updated maps yet. That is to say if you went to a dealer and asked to pay for new maps there is no sd card available at this time where they could update the maps stored on the hard disk in the pcm. Porsche is NOT Garmin by any means. Traditionally these updates are available once per model year so I would think it wouldn’t be unreasonable to expect one fairly soon but who knows.

This is how it’s done by Porsche.... https://www.suncoastparts.com/product/SKU958PCMU.html

I have a Garmin and it came with free updates. Whenever I'm planning to be someplace where there is new construction I take it along if I really need to know where to go. Even my brand new '18 isn't as good as the Garmin. The only good thing about the on-board navs is when they have the Google Search feature, which I use often.

Thank you for contacting Porsche Cars North America. We appreciate your inquiry and the opportunity to respond.
The Porsche Contact Center relies on authorized Porsche dealerships as a technical resource. With the proper tools and technical knowledge, your Porsche dealership would be in the best position to advise on when updates may be available for your 2017 Cayenne S. That being said, I must refer you to your preferred Porsche dealership for the information you are seeking.
I understand this may not be the answer you were anticipating but I hope that you find it useful.

That's it. "Porsche Specialist" pushes a button and a form letter is generated and sent to the customer. And when I talk to the dealer I'll likely be told "when an update becomes available you'll be able to download it - you can contact the Porsche Contact Center for more details".
If I tell him it's been like this for over a year... he'll likely respond "they all do it".

I am also signed up for the AT&T data service to the car and I am assuming that is how it made the download / update. Not sure of the speed of that data plan but it sure is responsive when I use that service via wi-fi for my phone or tablet......

It appears that you don't have the phone in the car with you from the icon on the lower left and I don't see a CarPlay icon so I am going to assume you were not using CarPlay either. It probably should not make a difference since the update is supposed to be via the internal LTE connection (which you show) but I do know that I would have had my phone with me at the time I did the update.
I'll try and check out the update option again this weekend as I am out running around in the car and see what happens.....

Thank you! That's how I understood it works - you wait for a Notification of an Available Update. So far, no Notification for me. Next time I take the car to the dealer for their famous $300 oil/filter change I'll inquire about the Update process.

And do the update over the 4G cell connection, not as a wifi client to your home (or other) network. 4G is considerably faster than 2.4ghz wifi. I tried updating my '17 over home wifi and it kept timing out. Used 4G over cell and it downloaded much quicker and actually completed. This was last year and I haven't checked for any updates since. More often than not I find using Waze on my phone to be more versatile/useful.
