Default 7-way trailer receptacle - OEM or universal?

I need this: https://www.suncoastparts.com/product/SKU955TPLUG.html But looking at it, is it really a Porsche part, or is it a universal part? I like Suncoast, but their shipping is really expensive just for one part..

As I've been reading more about the "tow package", it boggles my mind that even with the tow package, you need to buy the electrical adapter to plug in your trailer.

Even for Porsche's a la carte pricing, this is horse pucky!

I guess what you're really getting is a hitch, not a tow package.

As for the adapter, the 7 wire standard is universal. I don't know if there's anything similar out there; as a unique adapter to plug into the wiring harness and offer the 7 pin plug in, it may be proprietary to Porsche. But at $20, it doesn't look all that bad.

I thought it's a little silly too, but oh well.

The reason I was thinking that maybe it's a universal part is because you'd THINK they'd brand the part if it was proprietary, but I see no markings on the on listed on the Suncoast site.

GrandPaJohn FTW! I was shocked when I went to hook up my trailer and had no electrical connection, just a blank piece where the plug should be. I bought this exact piece, installed it in 2 minutes and was ready to go.

Only Porsche could sell you the towing package and then make you buy the actual receptacle separately.

That has to be universal. They can't expect you to rewire any trailer you might tow to a different plug configuration. Should be able to find the same thing at any chain auto parts store.

The receptacle end where my trailer plugs into it is of course universal; My question was is the other end of it, where it plugs into my CD's wiring harness, a universal/standard connector, or is the plug a Porsche proprietary configuration? Apparently it's the former.

by this one, it's what I have in mine (purchased from amazon)
pull the cap off with the 4 screws
this plugs right into the wiring under the cover.

Yup, very happy to hear that... That's what GrandPaJohn linked me to, and is on the way!

Doing a little digging.. We can also use this one which has the same mounting pattern, but gives a 7-way and a 4-way. http://a.co/iHl4IT9 (You'll need some longer screws - I'll update this if/when I get it installed)

Oh nice! Wish I saw this last week though as I already ordered the 7 pin only version. Wonder if I still have the packaging...

I have the receptacle to install, but what is the secret to getting the cover off the end of the wiring harness? Obviously you have to first take the cover off, but after that I can't get the rubber cover off the plug on the end of the wiring harness. Took the little white clip all the way out and the cover still won't come off. What is the trick?

I didn't end up ordering it, sorry... None of the trailers I pull have a 4-pin on them, so it's been relegated to the "when I have nothing better to do" list.
