2017 Cayenne S
What price should I pay for a new 2017 Cayenne S with MSRP of $95,000? The dealer's initial offer was a 10% discount. It's a year behind since the 2018's are out and soon to be two years behind with the new 2019's late this summer. The 10% offer is about invoice. I don't know how much lower than invoice a dealer can go. Don't know why the car hasn't sold. It has a very desirable color combination with the right options. Nothing weird about the car. Thanks for your help.

Hi Porscherex. Don't get hung up on invoice. That's meaningless as we move into a new model year. The dealer may need to "lose money" vs invoice at this point (ignoring hold-backs and other incentives we may not be aware of). The market will decide what this car is worth and the market doesn't care a bit what the invoice says.
This car competes with used 2017's now. The question for you (and the dealer) as it ages is "what price will someone pay, given newer alternatives"? That's why they start bundling goodies into Platinum Editions during the last model year before major updates. Folks need an added incentive to buy them vs waiting for newer models. Your dealer is very aware of this.
We picked up a 2017 Cayenne S in November. It was a PCNA Exec car with CPO and 10,000 miles. MSRP was $92 and we paid $75. This car had its price reduced 3 times since August. We made an even lower offer and the dealer took it to move the car. Decide what it's worth to YOU and make a credible and polite offer, but don't chase it. The clock is ticking and the dealer knows it. Make him an offer at year end and see what happens?
We decided we preferred the value in the 2017 model since it's a long term keeper for us. Many years down the road they're all worth a similar amount: https://usedfirst.com/ Besides that, the 2019 will have features we don't care for like the fingerprint magnet touch controls. Getting the latest infotainment features mean little to us, though that heavily influences the decision for some folks. And the 2019 comes with a big price bump over the current generation.

I can't tell you what they should be worth now ... but I can tell you I bought a used 2017 in March 2017 .. that had a sticker of 97k that I picked up for 82K .. had just under 3k miles on it and it came as CPO so I wasn't worried about the warranty coverage at all.... excellent condition as one would expect for a Porsche with less that 3k miles ... I've added another 7k mile this year and love the car....

CPO is generally worth about $2500 +/- $500 (roughly what it costs the dealer and what it adds to the car's value). However, it probably can't be added to a new car.
Looking again at that used car depreciation link, you see a 20% depreciation hit in the first year. That would be good justification for offering 20% off MSRP. Explain to the dealer this is the car's market value before you even get it home. You can't justify paying more.
But you might do even better than 20%? Mikeearly got 15% off with CPO in March. We got 18% off with CPO in November. Of course you're technically looking at new but maybe "new" is comparable to "low mileage CPO". Who knows what they'd take at the end of December? Can't hurt to push for more than 20% off.

The end of the year is approaching so use it to your advantage to get a good price. Tax wise it may also be beneficial to do the deal in 2017 for sales tax deductibility. Buying the first year of a new model roll out may be troublesome. Good luck.

Thanks everyone. You have been very informative and helpful. Dealer's 10% discount now I realize is too low. A 20+% discount is more appropriate or I'll just wait for the 2019's. Again, thanks.

Not bad. The black/cohiba is a rare, but gorgeous find. Personally, I'd go with the LEDs. It gives it a more modern look and the housing being black is a nice contrast to the white exterior. Roof rails would definitely add to the look. I'm sure the right one will pop up. I'm not too certain you'd find that interior, but I suppose anything can happen if you're patient enough.
