Default tire alternative for 295/35r21?

Almost 10,000 miles on my michelin latitude sport's and the tread is nearly gone, I slide on wet pavement. Can anyone recommend another 295/35r21 tire that would last a little longer? At $300+ each these are not exactly cheap and every 10,000 miles is tires every 12 months.

Also these tires have made the cayenne the worse vehicle I've ever driven in the snow and I use to own a rwd v8 chevy

Has anyone tried the CONTINENTAL EXTREMECONTACT DWS 06? I notice the latitude sports have a UTQG of 220 which means thin tread but the Extremecontact DWS 06 are 560 and all-season so they should last twice as long and be better in the snow (hopefully)

Your Michelins are summer performance tires not meant to be driven under temps of 45 or so. Any all-season will fare better in snow. I have Latitude Tour HP all-seasons on my CD. I just got new ones after about 33K on the old ones. They work for me.

DWS seems to be a great Cayenne tire. Ideally they'd be installed prior to winter so the tread depth is there for the snow. Once the tread wears, the indicators on the tire will show the S worn away, which essentially makes them useful for dry D and wet W, but no longer for Snow.

Nokian has been another that has received positive reviews.

Nokian isn't receiving any positive reviews from me.. the zLine-SUV tires wear OK, grip OK, ride crappy - they seem to flat-spot if parked for more than about 30 minutes, and it takes 10-20 miles for the flat-spotting to go away. They were also challenging to balance - barely making it under the Hunter Road-Force limit for an unbalanceable tire. The Conti DWS's that I had on my '06 /S were a much better tire. Not the ultimate grip of the Nokian - but better in every other way.

If you gotta go with an all-season, Continental's extremecontact dws are hard to beat. If you can swing separate summer/winter sets there is no comparison. *this is based off of experience in 275/45r20 but expect 295/35r21 would be pretty similar.

My Yoko Advan Sport V105s lasted 18k miles. I just changed to the Latitudes and have been happy so far. It was between these and the Contis - big advantage for the Contis is they have a 50k tread life warranty.

so i have two forum members saying dws are the way to go, right?

I'd love summer/winter tires, but I still need summer tires that last longer than 12 months, so i'd probably get the dws anyway since the tread life is supposedly double according to tirerack

when I bought the cayenne it came with michelin latitude sport so I didn't know how long they lasted so my first tires were michelin latitude sport again since that's what Porsche recommends. Now seeing how they only last 10,000 miles I just can't keep buying them. If dws last 20,000 miles I'll be extremely happy and if they last over 30,000 miles I'll be shocked

Their tread warranty is pretty great too, though you need to be able to show documentation on rotating them frequently.
Like I said, hard to go wrong with that tire for an a/s.

1. You cant get all season in the 295/35-21 so you may need to invest in a second set of rims and tires.
2. Change your alignment, I set my alignment at 0.5deg camber and zero toe. I am not racing on the track so the Porsche recommended set up is too aggressive and eats tires on the inside.
3. I changed my tire pressure to 40 all the way around since weight distribution is 55F/45R and I drive empty 99% of the time. I increase pressure in the rear when towing.

With this set up, the Pirelli lasted me 27,000m. I was not happy with the DWS. Now I have the Michelin and I find them to be a little taller than the Pirelli so the ride is better. Low noise.

You absolutely can. The Conti DWS (Dry, Wet, Snow is what it stands for) is an all season and available in that size.

Here are all the Tire Rack offerings in a 295/35-21

https://m.tirerack.com/tires/TireSearchResults.jsp?performance=ALL&width=295%2F&ratio=35&diameter=21& rearWidth=255%2F&rearRatio=40&rearDiameter=17&zipCode=30075#0

and the DWS is in that list

Here's why:

1) the DWS scored 2nd only to the Pilot Sports on Dry/Wet track and easily beat all three other Ultra High Performance All-Season tires on snow

https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tests...y.jsp?ttid=201

2) the pirelli have zero customer reviews, while the DWS have 458 reviews and a 4.5 rating.

3) DWS has a slightly better wear rate, 560 vs 500

4) DWS are $30 cheaper per tire

The pirelli don't sound bad, but the fact that it has no ratings from any customers does scare me a bit. Then add the higher price and lower wear rate and it doesn't make sense to go with the pirellis

I love the performance and handling of the original equipment latitude sports but I can't justify replacing tires every 10,000 miles. If I was racing and making money with the tires I could use that as an excuse, but I can't justify $1,500+ yearly for tires to get groceries

I've got the Conti DWS 06 as well. Previously had a set of Pirelli Pzeros' (which were awesome by the way). The Contis are quieter and provide a smoother ride. They are good when pushed through twisties, but you can feel the sidewalls give a bit when really pushed very hard. However, they are also very predictable when put to the limit. I don't drive the TT hard, so for me, I needed more of an all season tire due to the crazy weather here in Colorado. So for me the Contis were the way to go.
