"For the new AHD backup camera, have to remove the inner tailgate panel, remove old camera, splice new camera with handle to OEM video and power wiring. Also a bit of rewiring for the handle actuator. Very simple process."

In another thread, there is beginning of a discussion about replacing the factory camera with an aftermarket one that would still work with the original PCM and sensors. Are you able to discuss what wires on aftermarket camera you had, and how did you splice them to factory harness to allow it to work? Also, are the backup lines and parking sensors generated by the camera or the PCM, if you know. Curious if just splicing in an aftermarket camera will work with stock PCM, sensors, etc. as stock camera is not very good.

Thanks!

Here is a picture of the OEM wiring prior to rewiring:

https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...265596e19.jpeg

On the left is the power and ground for the hatch activation switch. The right has 2 sets of wires. The grey fakra with the yellow and black wire are for the video and trigger. Below this connection is a power and ground wire with a connector.

The OEM hatch was wired directly to the hatch micro switch through the female wiring housing then filed with silicone. The new camera had the 2 pin female.

Harvested the power and ground wire connector on the right hand side and spliced to the hatch wiring with these:
https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...afd24072c.jpeg
The hatch wiring now has the proper male connector to plug into the new camera. Perfect fit. Utilized
the same self soldering connectors to rewire the power and ground without a connector considering that the male connector was harvested.

All functions as intended and fully reversible.

As for the camera functionality, tested the new camera with the PCM and worked. The image was improved considerably, but the PCM resolution is limited to 480p and the new camera is 720p. Much better than the abstract art images provided by the OEM camera. All sensors, lines, blue box, flipping top view vehicle image and beeping all work with new camera and PCM.

The PCM in the Options section, the blue box and lines can disabled then utilize the lines that are with the new camera or utilize the PCM lines and blue box and cut a wire on the new camera to disable the new lines. Your choice.

Hi..I bought 12.3 android unit as well and although I used a professional installer, we have run into several issues listed below:
1) I do not get any sound as my car (Porsche Cayenne 2013 turbo with PCM 3.1) has an optical wire for sound and I cannot see a place to insert it.
2) I also loose all the car's original display including the navigation since there is no video signal.
3) The rear camera does not work. I was sent a new camera but the new one has a rca cable compared to the original one which has a clip/insert.
4) One of the AC vent is blowing hot air. There is no place for the sensor wires to be attached on this unit that maybe causing an issue. Any advise.
You can e-mail me directly on my kota_raja@yahoo.com with pictures or videos as that would be of great help...thanks

Silverbullet911, thanks, did you buy the 960x720P (HD) or 720x480P version of the rear cam?

Silverbullet911 - thank you for all the info and pics! Been looking at these the past week and came across your post. Do you still like the system? Anything you would've done differently? Do you have any additional pictures that show how the unit sits in the dash down at the bottom? Is it flush at the bottom with the rest of the dash? How well do the vents work (they appear to be quite a bit smaller)? Last question, which adapter was needed for the factory GPS antenna?

I really like the look of the screen. IMO, the vertical screens are being used a little too often. Thanks again for the great write up.

Silverbullet911 06-23-2022 11:08 AM

Continue to like this system as it provides the technology to modernize the vehicle and would not change what was installed. The vents work very well.

If installing a new HD rear camera, disable the guide lines. If this is not completed, the original blue square and lines will appear with the new lines. Disabled the PCM lines, but reappeared when new system was installed. The system is pressure fitted to the opening, used a bead of silicone to set in place for now

Provided below is a picture of the bottom fitment, clean no gaps. Also provided a link for the GPS adapter.

1) The unit should have been supplied with an analog to digital converter, blue box. This will convert the analog signal from the new unit to a digital signal to the OEM amplifier. There are 3 wires that are required to be spliced to the new harness from the converter, 12v constant, 12v ACC and ground. Relocate the fibre optic line from the OEM harness to the new converter. Before the fibre optic line is connected, turn on the vehicle to confirm that the converter is functioning. If a blinking red signal light appears where the fibre option line is to be connected in the converter then it has been wired properly. Then connect the red and white RCA lines to the converter. This should solve your sound issue from the connection perspective. If the is still no sound after the installation of converter, go to the DSP section of the head unit system. Find the speaker output or fade control. The orange or yellow dot should be moved to the middle of the seat diagram. Initially had no sound as the dot was set to the bottom right rear of the cabin.

2) There will be no retention in connection with data or video from the PCM to new unit. Also the display on the dashboard will be limited with no radio, phone or navigation map. These items will be provided by way of the new system unit through Apple CarPlay or different apps.

3) Did not elect to purchase and use the rear camera from the head unit seller, rather purchase a HD rear handle camera specifically for the vehicle. Spliced in the new camera wiring to the OEM at the tailgate by harvesting connectors from the OEM and soldering to new. Works well. If there is a OEM camera in existence, the camera can be used, but the video is not as clear.

4) There are no temperature sensors associated with the new unit. No AC may be a separate challenge not associated with the installation. Heat and AC work. There are interior temperature sensors located in the lower dash.

Silverbullet911 - thank you again for all the info! It's a huge help. It's hard to find consistent info on these devices when they're primarily sold on Aliexpress. They've released a new version that uses an 8.4" screen and Andoid 11. It keeps the factory vents and looks pretty much the same as the factory system with a larger screen.

I like the clean look of this new one, but I still really like the look of the 12.3" Horizontal screen as well. It gives it a more modern look, but it's still a little difficult to tell how well it looks and how it flows with the dash. It's such a cool design looking at it straight on. Would you happen to have additional pictures that show how it looks from different angles? How does the quality of the housing & vents look?

Did you look into the option for adding the 360 camera system? Even though it adds quite a bit to the install process, I'm strongly considering it as it seems to be a usefull feature and would also add some value if the day comes that I decide to sell the vehicle. It may be more trouble than it's worth though 🤔

Hi, can you post the link for the GPS converter you purchased to use OEM GPS?

NN. 06-12-2023 02:23 AM

Hello! Do you mind to share the model of the rear view camera which can be connected directly to the factory wires? The link above is dead by now.

This is the link to for the head unit. There is most likely 1or 2 actual assemblers and multiple resellers selling the same product on AliExpress. Purchased from a reseller. Product delivered on time and very well packed. Had then include the ELM327 OBD2 reader at no cost. Purchased from this reseller only from a price perspective. Units are all the same.

No need to purchase any additional parts, but elected to purchase a GPS converter cable for $10 to connect to the OEM GPS. Unit comes with a new GPS antenna, decided to use OEM and works perfectly.

Purchased a handle AHD camera to replace the original as the image was very poor. The OEM will work with the new head unit. Only have to connect the new yellow RCAs. The new harness has the video signal and trigger wire already in place.

Purchased PCM replacement knobs and extracted the faces then epoxied to the new chrome knobs. Personal preference.

All addition purchases were transacted with different AliExpress sellers, rather than the head unit reseller.

As for sound, with a Bose system, the speakers are still Bose and they have their limitations, but sound is definitely enhanced. Unit comes with DSP, bass adjustment 48 band equalizer etc..

More pictures with the customize Carwebguru UI launcher and modified knobs.

How did you change the launcher? Any special
procedure?

I purchased the same unit, but once I installed it, I lost the sound fading from rear speakers, how did you solve the issue? I have the fiber optic converter already, thank you in advance

Question how did you splice the wiring? Is there a picture to get an understanding on how this aliexpress camera supposed to connect to the original unit ?
