Default Headlight Theft - making a comeback?

2017 Cayenne S E-Hybrid with PDLS Plus

Parked at JFK, in short term garage, with security

Dirtbag tried to pry both headlights free - didn't get them out but destroyed headlights by cracking the leading edge of both lights.

Replacement headlights are $4,070 each at the dealer, plus coding to sync them with vehicle.

PSA: Watch where you park.

Ugh. Sorry to hear...this really sucks and concerns me because I was just there with my GTS a few weeks back picking up my mother in law. Any chance you can find a replacement elsewhere? Those prices make me cringe!

Sounds like amateurs. The pros will bend the hood to get to your headlight release. In any major city you should be parking in a well lit place.

Any way to make the garage responsible?

There's a number you can call to report a crime in the garage...but from what I've heard not very helpful. But still from a documentation perpsective, probably should've been done.

You'd be surprised, we had someone hit our Cayenne last week at a hospital parking lot. Security pulled the footage. Fortunately, it was a gym back or something light that ran against it though looked like the rear pass. door was going to need to be resprayed based on pics my wife sent when she first came out, but came 100% out with light buffing... so was all their paint or whatever.

All depends on who you get at the lot, they may be able to find who it was on security footage. Or they may just not care and say they can't find anything.

Should be a comprehensive claim on your auto policy.

You should only be responsible for your deductible and should have no impact on your premium from most insurance carriers. (Still sucks but if you carry comprehensive coverage, I doubt the deductible is anywhere near that amount.)

Sorry to hear and good luck.

And another reason to carry low deductable on comprehensive. It costs me $35 extra per year on 2 cars to have $50 deductible comprehensive. That paid for itself many times over in June. Penny wise, pound foolish?
