Default Driving me freaking NUTS

Ok more nuts than usual.

In the past few days my 11 Cayenne TT is displaying "Key not recognized" maybe 40 times in a drive. New batteries. New updated key back. Take the battery out of my mine and use wife's key. Take BOTH keys offline. We have torn the car apart JUST IN CASE there is another key somewhere. Used a Rubber Chicken in 13 Counter Clockwise circles.

The car will NOT got to sleep unless i disable both keys. Hell I even read it Microsoft Tech manuals. Went to start this AM and it was a weak start and saw a quick error about battery saver initiated or something like that.

Can't get her into the shop till Saturday.

Ahhhhh

Lol, good luck. I'm also having an issue with one key. I'm thinking it just needs a new battery.

Clockwise? Have you tried counter-clockwise?

We had this issue! Turned out to be the KESSY button in the Passenger Front door handle shorting out. System thought the button was being pushed repeatedly. Did a little hot fix by cutting and taping off the cords inside the handle, just to save my sanity. May eventually replace the door handle guts to get the button back.

Have you tried using one of the ODB tools like iCarScan or Durametric to see if there are any identifiable places to start? If you don’t have it, I might try walking around the car with the doors unlocked and the key in your hand. If it’s the same issue, the car will lock itself when you get to the faulty door handle.

Roll your windows down while driving and see if you can cause the Key not Recognized error by wiggling the handle and/or pressing the button.

Was it due to a lot of button use or just failure out of nowhere?

Well car was asleep this AM. I reassembled my key and drove to work with NO errors. I checked the durametric this weekend and saw nothing but you cannot do much with Durametric and the 958.

While the car was still asleep I wiggled each door handle and it did not wake up. So I don't know. How did they find the door handle button short?

Oh and Don, it depends on the issue if you go clockwise or counter clockwise

Heh, I've been in many mailing list threads over the years when we discuss the proper sacrificial/superstitious rituals necessary for troubleshooting.

Goat? What color? Chicken? What breed? Waved in circles or up/down? Good times.

I am not sure on our Audi how they diagnosed it. I guess my symptoms were a little different - beside the "sleep mode" it kept unlocking itself after I would lock it.

Could also be the receiver in the steering column.

Well (I am not complaining) but not a single alarm today. I did take the battery out of my key for a good 14 hours. I wonder if that did something.

What receiver in the steering column? There is one in the ignition lock - that pairs the key to the ECU with it's floating code.
