Stiff ride with new Cont DWS06 anyone?
Hi guys,
I used to run Michelin Latitude Sport summer tire N1 295/35/21 on my 16 GTS with stock 21" Sport classic rims. It ran very smooth and the air suspension ride quality was very good in comfort/sport/sport plus mode. But now the the ride quality become very very stiff when driving through any bump and uneven road (Even in comfort mode setting)after put a new set of Continental ExtremeContact DWS 06. Tire pressure was set to suggested 44 rear and 38 front and today changed to 41 rear and 38 front but still same issue. Has anyone experienced this kind of problem? I have had the GTS for little over 2 months and new with this P Cayenne thing. (Came from M5 and X5 before and changing all different brand of tire from summer to all season but never had any issue before) Why would changing different brand of tire with exact same size has such a huge impact in ride quality? I have read a lot of positive review about DSW06 before I bought it :< Are there any setting I can try improve the ride quality? Anyone changing from summer tire to all season has this kind of issue especially in 21" size?

Lowering the tire pressures will help. There are suggested comfort pressures in the manual which are lower than normal.
XL tires (extra load) will have a stiffer wall which impacts the ride quality but improves control and helps with towing and hauling. Also, some tires will just be stiffer than others for the same reasons. I never rode on that Michelin so I can't comment on it vs the DWS.

It is interesting how, for the same wheel/tire sizes, as well as sharing the same exact chassis', VW Touareg has recommended 33/39 where Porsche has 38/44.
A difference of 5 lbs.
Some say that tires don't make that much of a difference, until they do.

My stock Michelin are also XL but the it is day and night when going through bump and uneven road.

I settled on 36/42 psi front and rear, and it is pretty comfortable.
That's with the Conti DWS 06s, had them for about 2 months.

I have the DWS 20", tire pressure at 38 44. Ride is great and not too harsh. I generally have it in sport ride mode though switch to soft mode on the pot hole filled streets. Have over 17k on the tires and very pleased.

MY DWS06 was soft the first 200 miles then stiffen up afterward. Still soft around the corners, feels more like a family van now with these tires. Personally I perfer the OE Michelins better because they corner flat and more sporty despite harsh ride quality.

Yeah, 38/44 is a bit high. I would drop it to comfort or somewhere in between and not worry, unless towing or hauling. You need the full pressure under load though.

Do you notice a significant difference between sport/comfort suspension mode? On my '17 GTS with winter 19" Scorpions I notice a big difference in ride harshness in Sport mode over Comfort (with the PASM and PAS suspension options). I hadn't noticed it as much with the crappy 20" Eagle LS2 tires that came with the vehicle (and they haven't worn down enough to replace them).

I recently (just last week) drove a 957 GTS with new 21" Conti DWS06s on it. Nothing stood out to me as being harsh with the ride, even switching between different ride heights and PASM settings. In fact from what I recall of my 957 CTT with the 21" OEM N-spec Michelins, I think this GTS with the Contis rode a bit better, more refined.

I ran Conti DWS in the past. Not a big difference between those and michelins for ride comfort. Maybe something happened to your air suspension when they lifted the car. Did they place the suspension in service mode?
