Default Looking to buy used 2016 cayenne

new to the forums and Porsche ... its a 2016 cayenne certified with 32k miles for $45k. Is this a reliable year? Any issues I should watch out for?

Transfer case. Make sure there is no slipping. I seen a 958.2 in the shop for this.

Not sure of what is included in your spec but I just bought a 2016 base with 21K for $49K. It has 60% of what could get installed on it. It also came with a free TC issue! Just fixed under warranty...
Everything else is performing great.

I'm also looking for a 2013-2015(16) Cayenne to replace my 06. I've read through the sticky and browsed through threads. Seems the only real issue might be transfer case? Are those the only problems on the later models of the second gen? The Variocam bolts are only on the 958s up to 2012? Looking at base model, S, Diesel and even found a couple of GTS and E-Hybrid within my budget.

Any mileage issues to be concerned about? My 06 had 170K and drove like new. But it got hit on the front side so it's gone.

Based on your questions - I would haved guess you haven't read: https://rennlist.com/forums/cayenne-...his-first.html - but you said you read the sticky.

Please re-read it, then come back with questions that aren't answered in that thread. If the questions and answers are good enough, I'll add it to the thread. And no - the transfer case isn't the only "real issue" - there are other potential issues covered in the sticky.

I did read that, and unless there is some hidden information it seems that the 2013 onwards pretty much only have the transfer case issue.

Quation from the linked post

"So for a punch list, or a search jumping point if you will, is this really all we have for the 958?

-Variocam bolts on early models (now under recall)
-transfer case failure (fluid change, or $4k worst case at the dealer)
-windshield wipers (lol)
-beige interior has wicked dashboard glare (class settlement to cover Ray-Bans, $175)"

Correct me if I’m wrong, Deil, but I’ve been reading a lot about the coolant pipe issues on the 958. I’m chasing a very small coolant leak on my Turbo

I know of the coolant pipes on the 955 and 957, the plastic that broke on the S and Turbo. And there are some talks about the 958 early ones where the glued coolant pipes come undone. But it doesn't seem to be a big issue for most? Or is it, and I just keep missing it? I had two coolant leaks on my 2006 one came from the Y-connector on the passenger side near the back of the motor. For some reason Porsche uses this one type of plastic in the coolant system that seems to be highly allergic to coolant. They just become super brittle. The same happened on my 996. I just touched the connector and it crumbled. The second seep was coming from somewhere on the driver side, right around the head. I think it might have been the thermostat housing? But it was a very very light seep I kept monitoring, and now the car got hit on the driver side so it's getting scrapped I think. On wards to the next model. Seems like the 2013-2016 are pretty solid except the TC issues? And that seems like something I should be able to feel when test driving. My 2006 had some issues with that, I replaced the Transfer Case Motor and it got a lot smoother.

In any cooling system as complex as the one on a 958, especially a CTT - I think there will always be some sort of tiny leak. Just SO many junctions and fittings. The ones to watch for on the V8 engines are: cooling hose stub off the "manifold" connecting the cooling passages on the rear of the engine - glued in until ?? I want to think 2015, but not certain when the change was. The same identical pipe was also an issue on the 955/957 engines.. The other weak point is the two big pipes on the thermostat housing. There is a thread on that.. they were also glued in on the V8 from 2011-2015? maybe? I think that design also goes back to the 957 V8 engines.

These aren't a "when" issue - some probably will never need replacement, but they are a possible sudden leak source on the earlier 958 V8s. Neither of these has ever risen to the level of the 955 exploding coolant pipes - where if you own it long enough - it's a sure thing.

Did you make the purchase? We bought our 2016 with similar mileage and price almost exactly a year ago, but it wasn't certified. We were able to get a fidelity ext warranty for a few grand more. Only issues that we've come across were the transfer case (which was done under warranty by the previous owner) and a worn out sunroof seal that was causing some wind noise. Otherwise, very reliable and the VR6 is a peppy engine with a good noise.

I'm guessing Jaxxx decided on something else - his last visit to Rennlist was on 3/18/19 - one day after his single and solitary only posting. That's typically a sign someone lost interest.
