Considering a Cayenne Diesel

Considering a Cayenne Diesel
Hello,
First post here! I am considering a used Cayenne diesel for my next car. I am seeing quite a bit of '13 and '14 model years available in my area that have around 55K miles. My concern is, of course, the cost of maintenance. Thus far, I have always maintained all of my cars and consider myself pretty knowledgeable for the regular maintenance. Do you guys recommend extended warranties on these vehicles (quoted $6,809 today for 3yr/30K miles through Carchex) or will the extended emission warranty cover what typically can go wrong with these vehicles?
I appreciate any and all input.
Daniel

Hi Daniel, and welcome to RennList!
There are a few threads that would be worth your reading:
https://rennlist.com/forums/cayenne-...-coverage.html <-- all about warranty coverage on the diesels due to diesel-gate..
https://rennlist.com/forums/cayenne-...his-first.html <-- Buying a Cayenne 958? Worth reading this to learn more about what to look for..
As far as the cost of maintenance - if done by a Porsche dealer it's likely to seem expensive. If you can DIY for things like oil changes, brake pads, etc - then it isn't unreasonable, especially if you do some shopping for parts (Porsche parts prices are exceptional, not in a good way..)
Stop back after you've absorbed those two threads and let us know any concerns you might have..

I would not bet/wager the $7,000 that you are going to need that much repairs for 3 years or 30,000 miles. The Cayenne Diesels are pretty durable and will have the extra warranty for most (expensive) things anyway. Buy and drive.

What r553 and Ben said..
Instead of giving some warranty company money - take the same money, put it in the bank (or invest it in Roku..) and use it for any needed repairs that would have been covered by the warranty - and include the deductable. Bet most of it is still intact after 3 years..

Thank you for the reassurance! I'm happy to say that I pulled the trigger and purchased a super clean 1 owner 2013 CD w/ 53k on the odo. It has a perfect maintenance history and I called the dealer which serviced it and they confirmed that everything was done according to Porsche requirements. All it needs is the clock replaced because the second hand decided to call it quits.

I think I was looking at the exact car you bought, haha. You snagged a great one!
Still trying to find the right CD or spend the extra coin for a GTS / Turbo, but the CD warranty is VERY hard to ignore.

I checked one out at Barrington but it had the front bumper resprayed and I was not impressed with the paintwork. The one I purchased had every option including the premium plus and it was a one owner with a very detailed maintenance history.
My buddy has a GTS and they are better in almost every way. The only advantage I have is 27.9 mpg vs 16 and a kicka$$ warranty lol!
