Cayenne Brake Dust
I am a little OCD and I try to keep my 2013 Carrera S wheels clean - but it is a job with all the brake dust the steel brakes throw off. I am in the market for a 958.2 Cayenne (2016 or 2017) and would like some input as to how much brake dust the steel brakes of the Cayenne produce. If someone could compare it to 991 steel brakes that would be great. Thanks for your help.

Cayenne is heavy with big brakes (I have an S).. it dusts a lot! more than my 993. when it needs pads I might try something different to see what happens.

I can’t compare it to the amount of dust the steel braked 911s throw off, but having owned two steel braked Cayenne Turbos now, I can tell you they create quite a dust storm. I’m a bit OCD as well when it comes to clean wheels and brake calipers, so I find a good coat of Wheel Wax along with fairly frequent cleanings using simple car wash detergent and a good rinsing do the trick. Only occasionally do I use the pink Porsche wheel cleaner, if it’s been longer than usual between cleanings. You could always spec your Cayenne with the optional PCCBs :D |
I have a 2014 base. It makes dust. I have thought of changing the pads because of it. I cant really compare it to a 911. But you can spend all the time you want cleaning the rims. There will be more dust to clean.

I find for my cayenne, its better to just not wash it.
It's a daily. It's depreciating like a rock. I can get the wheels refinished. :-) |
I'm not sure how similar a 958.2 would be to mine, but my Cayenne (2011 S, steel brakes) makes a LOT of brake dust. Poorboys wheel sealant definitely helped make it more manageable. I could generally make it a week or so between before it drove me nuts when I cared more.
There may have been a compound change on the later cars, the two service loaner Macans I've had (2018 models) have left little to almost no brake dust, even after a good week or so of flogging the Macan S I had pretty hard. |

Your best bet would be a 2019 Cayenne with the new PSCB. |

Your best bet would be a 2019 Cayenne with the new PSCB. mikeearly that's exactly what I was planning- PSCB brakes. About a 1/3 cost of PCCB brakes. When my rotors and pads on my 2013 Carrera S need replacing, I am hoping PSCB's will be available for that car also. I wish sometimes I was more like Spyerx. 😂 |
The dust drives me nuts too. Clean, clay, wax the Cayenne, looks beautiful, drive it to work one day and the wheels are already turning dark.
At some point I plan to just buy dark wheels. Problem solved lol. |
I give mine a shot of Armor All Brake Dust Repelant which not only helps prevent the dust from sticking to the wheel, but makes it easier to remove as well.
I've heard that Hawk Ceramic pads are also much lower dust than OEM but not sure if they make them for the Cayenne model you're looking at. Personally, I like the PCCBs and am retrofitting them to my 957 Turbo S when it comes out of the widebody conversion shop. I have them on my RUF 997 and they're phenomenal. |
I agree , brake dust is very similar on my 958 GTS vs my 987.1 S, and thats saying a lot since the GTS is driven by teh wife who has a lead foot and "uses" the brakes a lot more.
That said, I have the 21" black classic wheels and they do hide the dust some.. but I am the only one who washes the cars and I dont see a significant difference between the two |
