I'm interested.
Love to wake up the Diesel.
That would be the DPF, DEF and EGR delete or alphabet delete. Basically everyone I know that has a modern diesel (mostly diesel pickups) has done this and is much happier because of it.

I'd do that once the truck is out of warranty. However, its under warranty for a long time. I also have to go thru emissions inspections here every other year and there's a strong possibility that the shop will fail the truck if that stuff is gone

You don't understand what a checksum is... it's literally just a string of characters. If the string matches another string, the files are identical.

This is an example of a MD5 checksum of a PDF doc: B715CCB098EE1F6C9C2B030111B43D3B
https://www.howtogeek.com/363735/wha...ould-you-care/

You don't need any "master files." All you need is a scan tool to read the checksum on the ECU and you can have thousands stored on the scan tool to compare with. The ECU calculates one itself so that it can check for errors when it's being flashed.

And of course, if you delete the emissions hardware, the system status will show as not ready. Doesn't matter if you have a delete tune or just unplug it and run the stock tune. I'm not sure how many systems can have a status of 'not ready' and still pass; most states allow 1, but it's Kali, so I would assume 0.

OK, but how do you know that they're doing this? It's not all over the forums that people are having to flash back to stock and make sure their readiness monitors are set...

I read that they (California) were considering comparing checksums but, have not actually done it yet. I agree if they were enforcing the checksum portion of that there would be a lot of people going nuts on just about every car forum.

They do look at emissions readiness though and that is where you'll have problems if you do the deletes. There are hardware changes required (DPF delete and an EGR block off primarily) which will not be happy just changing back to the stock file for emissions testing. Here in NC they only make sure your CEL is not on and safety inspection (tread depth, brakes, etc...). I'm not even sure if they do a visual inspection that the emissions equipment is in place.

I can tell you in Texas, which is safety only for diesel, they just check for CEL and safety. Do not go under the car or under the hood.

I am happy to keep my DPF and SCR, but wouldn't mind deleting the EGR if that helps the car wake up a bit. Especially since it seems like they get clogged. My wife loves her car and seems to want to keep it a while.

EGR cloggs the intake manifold. PDF restricts exhaust without proper regen cycles. Get rid of both.

Has anyone installed a catch can or something similar in the PCV system for their diesel? Does anyone have a link to instructions or parts for one?

Thanks

Don't really want smoke / smell to increase even a little bit.

Cat does that. Not DPF

Looks like this thread has been quiet for over a year... just wondering if there are any new comments regarding a Stage 2 Malone tune with Rawtek delete pipes? No emissions inspection where I live... so I'm about to pull the trigger on one with DPF / EGR delete... I'm still not sure on doing full CAT delete. Not a big fan of rolling coal, but from the videos I see it doesn't look too bad... will I see any additional performance gains without the CAT? If I kept the CAT, would it's life be shortened without the DPF/DEF system in place?

Unfortunately, I would not be able to get Malone tuning because they disable readiness on removed emission equipment (DPF, SCR) and in my state they do OBDII every 2 years.

I wish there is a tuner who doesn't disable readiness on removed emissions but as far as I know, there is not a single diesel tuner who would do that in U.S.

flashing back to stock sounds good for emissions check (i.e. California)
and/or sale (curious, do you own the tune independent of the vehicle?)

curious where this ECU might is logged or if it’s logged
and if it is even checked by the dealership during any normal warranty work
