Fuel Gauge Fault
#1
Andy, thanks....I see that there is a fuel level sensing unit for my Cayenne S but also note there is a high pressure fuel sensor as well. Not sure what is most likely. Generally, I get an error warning, the needle goes down, I keep driving, and it starts working again.

On the 2004-2010 M.Y. Cayenne, there are 2 fuel level sender units; one for each side of the fuel tank. Each of these sender units are not part of the fuel pumps but are physically attached to them and can be purchased separately.

I just started seeing this error the other day. It returned last night and cleared after a short time this morning.
Is there a way to tell which is bad? I haven't pulled out the Durametric yet but will the fault code contain that info?
BTW - This is on a 2011 CS.

1. Your 2013 Cayenne is a "958" - you've posted this in a thread for 955/957 vehicles. The fuel sensors are different. What applies to a 955/957 is unlikely to apply to a 958.
2. Do you have a code reader? Without that tool, it will just be guesswork as to "what fault codes" might be. I'm also uncertain what that information would gain you. Ideally you'd like someone to say "do XYZ and your problem will be solved.." - without more information from you, such as a fault-code readout of your vehicle/instrument cluster - we're guessing blind. That can be a quite expensive troubleshooting technique on a Porsche - easily more than the cost of a decent scan tool. (Durametric, iCarScan..)

Thanks deilenberger, I did a search for fuel gauge errors, and this is the only thread I found. Understand I'm grasping at straws here, but thought some contributing factors on 955/957 might point me in the right direction on a 958. I do have a code reader and plan to scan for an error code when the fault re-appears (it comes and goes). I was asking about the codes as a follow on to a previous post, in which the poster asked whether a fault code would point to the failing sensor/sender.
I'll check for codes thrown, and may just have to go the dealer for resolution. Will post my results in the 958 forum.

Would love to know what you found out, am looking for your thread on the 958 forum now. I have a 2011 S Hybrid with similar behavior with intermittent fuel gauge faults. Not the end of the world but irritating as I just got rid of the last issue causing a CEL (bad 02 sensor) and I hate having errors come and go.
