Front Seats Back Fell Off Issue. Solution 1 Fail. Solutions?
So, For Grins and Giggles. 100* Heat Index in Alabama and Monday, the driver's seat back fell... Then Tuesday pax side! I bought in early October 2006 so back up several months for production/shipment from Germany etc. and probably the super-glue Porsche uses lasts EXACTLY 10 years!? I almost feel like I'm back to my Beta model in 2004 and all my long lost buddies and I would be searching for the TSB to cover the latest sh**ho** thing to go wrong with the alphas/betas! :to_order::bowdown:
Been in a 7 year vortex called a small biz... coming up for air now!! Any recommendations? Velcro seems like the answer? How are you all doing?! Pass the Purplesaurus Rex and then talk to me! https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...685227383d.jpg |
Wasn't that a $1500 porsche exclusive seatback tray option? :-)
|
Now that is strange. I would just try some Gorilla Glue and you should be good for another 10 years.

Glad to see another old timer still enjoying their TiS. , Purplesaurus Rex:biggulp: I'm having flashback...
Whatever glue you decide to use, please share experience! |
My solution.
So, stopped by Lowe's - found the velcro section (not the glue section) and bought two 2 x 4 industrial velcro strips. Read that adhesive on these official VELCRO brand strips was only good to 120*F so bought some "super glue" that was rated to 180 (figure inside car temp doesn't get that hot but i could be wrong!). Cut pieces into 2 x2 squares. see below:
https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...881109fbef.jpg Then inserted all fabric side of velcro to the seat side and all plastic ridge sides to the cover side. allowed to dry about 30 minutes. voila' - complete! https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...9ee17cc1ae.jpg |
I used gorilla glue on mine and then lowered the seat back on to the back seats to force pressure on it while it cured. It's been going strong for almost 2 years now with no issues.

Pax side held with the Velcro methods -- I suspect because the plastic support pieces were not broken at the bottom of the back. Driver's side is not holding even with the gorilla "super" glue due to the temps I guess, and the fact that the plastic supports on the driver side both broke. cheap plastic things -- I suppose you can buy them from Porsche --- probably $100 each. Have parked in the shade and reapplied today -- we'll see if it holds and then will report back. |

This is what I used. What I did is sand the plastic square feet to clean them off, applied acetone on the square feet, and then glue. So far it has worked great for me.

I did some BlueRidge Molle panel covers, stopped messing with glue, velcro and screws....I will find it and post

Honestly, for my money, I think I'd just sink a couple of screws in and call it a day.
|
I had the exact same problem and Gorilla Glue solved it. The key is to apply liberally, then roll seat all the way back and have something like a shoebox also pushing from the rear side....and then let it dry in a cool temperature for 10+ hours. Mine has held well. Happened two years ago and glue application held until a month ago, when I repeated the same procedure.

Velcro Works!
Thanx MadFox....real Velcro is the trick!

I used E6000 clear cement (Home Depot has it). Has held for 3 years in Houston heat.

Haven't experienced this problem, but wanted to chip in my 2 cents on interior heat.
Back in 1987 I was working in Sacramento, CA. We had a day when it was 117 deg outside. I measured 133 deg in the shop, and an impressive 162 deg on the dash of my car parked in the sun. That was a DAMN hot day, but the point is, it can get really toasty inside the car in direct sun. |
