2006 TTS - Reference Audio Upgrade
This week at Musicar Northwest we're starting a project for a local client with a 2006 Cayenne TTS. We'll be taking a photographic build log and I'll keep this thread updated as we progress though the upgrade.
The car has factory Bose, which is an 11-speaker system in the 955 TTS. Despite what auto manufacturers might lead you to believe, we don't need that many speakers for good sound. For this upgrade we'll be using 7 primary speakers, and 2 for the occasional rear passengers. We'll also be incorporating a digital signal processor that gives us the ability to independently tune each individual speaker in the car. On top of that we'll be replacing the outdated PCM unit with a new Apple CarPlay system from Alpine USA.
The goals with this build:

This will more than likely be updated daily as we move along

The goals with this build:
- Achieve a "Reference" Level of Sound Quality
- Relocate Tweeters for Better Response
- Fabricate "Stealth" Subwoofer Enclosure
- Maintain a Relatively Factory Appearance
- Incorporate Apple CarPlay
- Maintain All Usable Cargo Area
Equipment List:
- Alpine iLX-007
- Morel Elate MT-350 Tweeters
- Morel Elate CDM-880 Dome Midrange
- Morel Hybrid MW6 Woofers
- AudioFrog G10D2 10" Subwoofer
- Mosconi ONE 130.4 Amplifier (Tweeter/Midrange)
- Mosconi ONE 130.4 Amplifier (Woofer/Subwoofer)
- Mosconi 6to8V8DSP Digital Signal Processor

Going over the system design and getting into the disassembly process this morning. Took the opportunity to snap some shots of the equipment.
Morel MT-350 Tweeters. We are going to be fabricating a new location for these in the sail panel at the top of the door.
Morel Elate CDM-880 Dome Midrange. These will replace the factory midrange in the door.
A pair of Morel Hybrid MW6's to replace the lower-door woofers.
A matching set of Mosconi ONE 130.4 Amplifier to run the entire system.
The 6to8v8 from Mosconi of Italy will control the EQ and time correction for each amplifier/speaker channel.
Finally, an Alpine iLX-007 CarPlay unit will replace the factory PCM.

The first portion of the fabrication is the amplifier and DSP mounting system. This process involved hand fabrication of composite plastic and aluminum parts designed specifically for this project. The major goals here are:
- Hide All Equipment
- Maintain Serviceability
- Utilize OEM Hardware

Signal patch cables between the DSP and amplifiers were hand-made to length.

Thanks for sharing this install and taking time to take all the detailed pics, I am very excited to follow this as I am planning a similar surgery. I like the Morel speakers but was planning to use the Pioneer head, do you like the Alpine better?

No quad-zone control in this one. Theres room for the equipment on the passenger side where the factory amp and disc changer were, but it would have required a much more elaborate mounting system.

Hahah, it was just trashed for the photos, we give the client back all the original gear. I'll ask him if he's willing to part with it.

When replacing any door speaker, adapters are typically required. You can sometimes find cheap, flimsy pre-made versions, but that wouldn't be fitting of the caliber of our integrations.
For the MW6 door woofers we machined a custom set of adapters from high-density polyethylene. They're triple layered for proper speaker depth placement and also to make them as solid as possible. They even add rigidity to the door once they're installed.
It's a messy process, but most definitely worth it...
