Alignment question
I hope to finish up a front-end refresh this weekend and need to schedule an alignment for my 2005 CTT.
I have read that the a proper alignment includes calibrating the steering angle sensor using PIWIS.
My question is what does the steering angle sensor do and what are the consequences of not calibrating during the alignment? Assuming it may trigger error codes/lights and affect PSM?
I am waiting on confirmation from indy of they can calibrate it before deciding between indy at $195 and stealership at $325.

I would be shocked if your indy doesn't have the proper computer to calibrate the steering angle sensor. If they can't do it there has to be someone local who can. Two weeks out? That sucks. Hopefully you have another car you can drive so you don't mess up the tires on the beast.

Three Wheelin'
It's not a calibration, per se. They use PIWIS to read the steering angle sensor to ensure it reads zero throughout the adjustments. They'll also make sure the suspension is perfectly level and adjust if necessary. Most other shops will simply eyeball the steering wheel.
It's one of those tasks that's worth going to the dealer if you can afford the wait.

Had 4 wheel alignment done by tire shops on both my 2004 CS and 2009 GTS. Steering angle sensor was never been mentioned. The tire wear and steering wheel position were as expected.

Stealership here did alignement on mine and it didn't feel good at all. Had them redo it, still a ****ty feel. Spent 260 eur.
Went to a local tire shop, they did it perfectly on the first try at 90 euros IIRC.
