Considering a 996TT spring/early summer timeframe......wanted to chat.

We have a 04 996TT Cab x-50 manual.

The 997 has the round headlights of course.... The interior is definitely upgraded as well.

But there is a big difference in price and you cant see the headlights from the inside anyway. The 996 has the same mezger motor and with a tune will have all the power you could want. I would make sure to drive them both before you decide. There are plenty of good deals out there.

996TT are the biggest bang for the buck 911 Turbos out there. They're at the bottom of their depreciation curve too.

I'd love to pick one up, been wanting one for years now.

Love your LS conversion Doc. I read the whole thread over the weekend. I followed the Vorshlag LS conversion on the e36 BMW a few year back, but the 944 is much more tantalizing to me.

I owned a 996 C4S at the same time that I owned my Cayenne S. I ended up selling the Cayenne and buying an Audi SQ5. I sold the 996 and bought a 997 turbo cabriolet.

I agree that the 996 turbo is the best bargain on the market in a performance car. That being said, there are some benefits to the 997 if your budget allows.

FWIW, my 996 was a fantastic car and one of my favorites of all time. I put close to 140K miles on that car.

Nope. But I do struggle some days with the choice between driving my Cayenne GTS or my '85 Targa Hot Rod!

As compared to a full front end fabrication (to make the 996 look like a 997),...

There has also been a lot of discussion on 6speedonline, where they talk about the aftermarket headlights that snap right in, and convert the 996 Boxster look, to a round 997 look. I saw a advertisement (at one point in time), for a company that was making these. It looked to me like they just put metal in the lower tear drop portion (that was not part of the round headlight glass),... and all you needed to do was paint the metal portion to match your car.

This was one thread I found. But again I cannot seem to find the company that is making those. Seems like an easy way to make the headlights round.

I agree the 997 has some perks, but the performance-per-dollar ratio of the 996TT is tough to beat. And they have bottomed out. They are only going to begin to creep up, or hold steady, and the $45K examples with 50K miles will soon be $45K cars with 80K miles.
