Absolutely! Here in Ontario the law REQUIRES them to hand over the damaged parts if you ask.

I`d ask, that would be a good indication of what got replaced (or didn't as the case may be)

I second this notion... Based on the limited information presented here, I'd venture to say that it's highly likely the OP was taken for a ride on this one, and that the transmission did not need a rebuild, and possibly was not even ultimately rebuilt.
