Default Intermittent Power Loss 06 TT S

What was once something that happened once in a while seems to be happening a couple times a week now. At full throttle my 06 turbo s loses a lot of power. Once I get off the gas and give it a sec I can get back in it and full power is there again. It's not the trans as it does kick down and the RPM's come up. Yesterday I did finally get a chance to look at the boost gage and it was only at .4 instead it's usual being pegged at .8 during full throttle use.

Any ideas? TIA!

Boost leak from most likely an Intercooler pressure hose connection? Most of the connections have O-rings and clips to hold them together. Also check your Y-Pipe (intake pipe at throttle body) as these are known to crack/delaminate but are pretty cheap (but the bottom hose going to it is a pain to get at and release).

thank you! The y-pipe is the prominent one right in front of the motor, right? Wouldn't either of these cause the power loss to be all the time?

Could also be a fuel issue, your not going to get boost if your not supplying enough fuel to the engine to develop NA power. Fuel pumps been changed?

Might also be a limp mode you are getting that resets after you shut off the motor and restart. Either way we're all just guessing without knowing what the codes read. That will help narrow it down at least.

It doesn't throw any codes and I don't have to shut it off to fix it. I just have to get out of the throttle for a few seconds 5 to 6 tops and then get back in it and it's fine. I have had the race car in the profile pic go into limp mode and this is not like that. It's the oddest thing I have ever experienced. Thanks for the input/ideas!

agree with previous comment about boost leaks, sounds like one or both bypass valves could be leaking

Your BOVs are most probably shot or your plenum is leaking. Or both.

Thanks again, will look into how I check all this stuff. Hopefully it's an easy fix. I was worried maybe a turbo was going bad or something but nobody has mentioned that so that's a positive sign!

So I have replaced the BOV's and the egr valve. the intake bit that is prominent at the front is fine too. Also dumped the oil and cleaned out the intercooler pipes. Still having the issue.

It's not limp mode or anything like that. One minute full power, the next run it feels like it's choking until it clears it's throat and then goes. When it happens I have to be very light on the gas pedal, pushing a tiny bit more at a time until I can feel it's ready to go again and then it's fine. Some days it doesn't do it at all. No codes. It typically happens when giving it heavier applications of throttle. My wife has never noticed it when she has it.

Thoughts anyone?

Almost sounds like a fuel filter is clogged. You have enough fuel to get into boost, demand rises, fuel restricted, let off and let some fuel get past the obstruction, then back into boost. Unless your saying if you wait and then you have all the boost you want for as long as you want, then I don't know.

have not checked that but will and also see when it was changed last. Yes once I get past the issues it typically does not happen again right away. Usually not for another day or so, sometimes weeks and other times it happens 10 min later. It's really bizarre. When this does happen not only is there a lack or power but runs a little rough.

could it be bad coils?

i know you said it's fine 1 minute and not the next, so it might not be, but something to consider?

for sure but pretty sure they were replaced. Will check. Wouldn't a code be thrown though?

Thank you!

I am leaning toward a fuel pump getting ready to totally fail.
