Default Some insights.

I have owned a 2005 CTT for 3 years and put on 60,000 km on it. It now has 210,000 km. Over all it has served me well, mostly because I am able to do most things myself. I had thought I had bought a good car with good records. It had all the major boogie men dealt with. Coils, fuel pump, coolant pipes. I replaced the carden shaft, emission hoses, control arms, front brakes and coolant Ts. It turns out it was likely run hard and put away wet. Not maliciously, as all previous maintenance and work was done on schedule at a Porsche dealership. My first clue was I found a smashed in rocker behind the front passenger wheel. I bought it at dusk and missed that. Note, make sure to look at a car in full light. This lead to the rocker rusting. Looked like it was dropped on a rock. I also found that the roof had been repainted. Noticed this when I tried to put on the roof racks and figured out the inserts were on the wrong sides. Previous owner did not disclose these.I have developed a transmission fluid leak about a year after my coolant T cracked. May have been cumulative dousing from the original coolant pipe burst and the the T cracking leading to that. I have just been topping up the fluid level since last November. On that note while driving a friend of mines, I noticed my starter is much slower than his, likely on the way out from having been soaked in coolant. I also have the light and code telling me that I need to replace a charcoal canister. I believe it is behind one of the wheel wells. I have a very small hole developing in the passenger seat leather.
So to make a longer story shorter I traded it in. I couldn't sell it privately considering its condition.
Of course since I have become spoiled by the CTT, I had to get another. So after looking at many I found the perfect candidate. A 2006 CTTS with only 79,000 km, in stunningly clean condition. Took my time looking at it this time. Since I found most of the cosmetic issues with my last on while washing it, I went slowly around the car as if I was actually washing it. I think the dealer thought I was nuts. Anyway everything checked out cosmetically and mechanically, and I traded mine in. Didn't get much for it as it was going straight to the auction as it wasn't good enough to sell. I was just glad to get rid of it as I had a large dollar amount of repairs coming.
I am still in the game, just with a new piece.

Thanks for sharing and I believe some good lessons learned here. As much as we stress due diligence in the buying process its easy to miss or assume things.

Let's see some pics of old and new!

I'm glad you kept the faith. When things are going smoothly, the 955 is a great truck.....but at 210,000km, it was probably time to move onto the next one. Sweet timing!

I wouldn't sweat the 270,000 km very much if everything is working as it should and you are comfortable with it. Like I said I think mine was abused some and it spent a good part of it's life in Edmonton. That should have steered me clear in the beginning. lol. BTW who do you go to for service in Calgary?

Nice, not sure about the wheels

I actually go to the dealer for service, it was looked after there all it's life and whilst we do have a German specialist outfit in the north, bizarrely they are no cheaper than the dealer. Oil and brakes, rotors etc. i do myself.

You plan on doing any mods or is 520HP enough!

Oh yea the wheels... They were winters that I had from my 05 CTT. I have some sport technos for the summer. I will be looking at 19s for next winter. I have a set of turbo 18" wheels that I now cannot use. I am just burning off the blizzaks that are on the current winters. I also do most of my work as well, and Calgary is the closest dealer. I have a very good indy here in Fernie, but no PIWIS. Only a couple of 911's and my cayenne for porsches here so not worth it for him to get the diagnostics.
As for mods, I don't think I have ever owned a car and left it stock. This may be the first. Nice dog btw.

Yeah it's a bummer about the wheels, and the cost of the Rotors but they do fill the wheel nicely.

I guess 'closest dealer' is a relative term from Fernie it's like 300km's. The other reason i use the dealer is that the service manager used to work for Reigel Tuning in town and he was the one who oversaw the mods that mine had done by the previous owner. And the workshop foreman owns a 955 Turbo and lowered mine for me for a case of beer

Nice dog btw
Thanks, 'Treacle' was the reason i got a Cayenne after i totalled our Audi Allroad. She insisted i got a Cayenne and i just couldn't say no to that cute face

I have used the dealer in Calgary and was totally satisfied, so will likely continue for stuff I cannot figure out. I grew up in Calgary so many of my friends live there. Gives me an excuse to go for a few beers with them.

Washed it today. So here are a couple of clean pics. A few things I have noticed about this car is that the smooth leather has more support than the soft (ruffled) leather I had before. Some of that may be due to less use. Over all the whole car is much tighter. Really like the heated steering wheel. The new one does not have satellite radio which I really like, so I mounted a new one on the dash at the base of the drivers side A pillar. I put in an aux plug behind the lower dash and wired it to a switched unused spot in the fuse panel and plugged the sat radio to that. I get much better reception than with the old one.
One issue has cropped up and likely why it was for sale at such a good price with such low mileage. It is shifting hard on full throttle and I have had one transmission flare. I had the trans flushed to get out all the old fluid. No improvement so tomorrow I will order a revmax valve body and a filter kit. Looks like next Saturday will be a valve body swap.
